Search engine giant Google, known for its mantra "don’t be evil", has fired off a series of legal letters to media organisations, warning them against using its name as a verb….In June, Google won a place in the Oxford English Dictionary, while "to google", with a lower case "g", was included last month in Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, America’s leading reference book….A spokesman confirmed that it had sent the letters. "We think it’s important to make the distinction between using the word Google to describe using Google to search the internet, and using the word Google to describe searching the internet. It has some serious trademark issues."

Anythings possible over time, but I don't think anything of this sort will happen any time soon. The closest Microsoft has been to being as good as Google in the search engine business is when they tried buying it.

    This "googling" case confuses me.

The job of a dictionary is to give the meaning of what people say, if people use "google" to mean "search" then a dictionary should mention it. How come a court can prevent it from doing it's job?

Your right because it takes less time for google to detect your site.. then Microsoft. Also when you rank you rank faster in google then microsoft.

because google are saying, you are using OUR company brand name as a acronym which means your using our company name as a figure of speech, you wouldnt say "oh go and do a Microsoft on the keyword web design" so why should you use our company name to do the same thing?

Right now, Google is a better choice, but in the future I can see MSN emerging as a viable search engine -even better than Yahoo

MSN and Google are known for their different uses. Google is world-renown for its vast and powerful search engine, where as MSN is usually known for its petty, but popular Hotmail.

Google is the only company to face microsoft and that is because google didn't try to face microsoft, but just made its own way to success. i believe google would made the same steps even if microsoft didn't exist.

No msn is more like a portal and have more infromation but in the other side google looks more just search engine cause has a simple layout and when you go on it you realizes you think its only a search engine but theres news hidden but unlike msn it has news on the main page and stuff.

The thing is, it's not only about search,

And in the last time, Google was always faster when it was about innovation.

    Think about Google Earth...

I use google, and the first reason isn't the search anymore...

Microsoft has one goal in life, to become a monopoly in all the ways that it can and to crush anyone that gets in their way.

That includes Google with MSN, the iPod with the Zune, and the PS3 with the xbox 360.

Apple isnt really as harsh as Microsoft is when it comes to consumer sales. Competative, but dont seem as ruthless as MIcrosoft.

I would say no. Google operates as a search engine and that's their speciality.

Not anymore. They have from online-translators to their own webmail system, which is pretty popular. Id say that Google > MSN, on a final note.

In the long run, they both need each other....but MSN is showing some signs of life, albeit in small doses. Google is going after MS territory in office apps. That should be interesting.
