People hardly get traffic from msn. There are very less no of people who search at msn. My blog is on first page of adsense for main keyword but i hardly get any traffic from there. There has been significant change in getting traffic. search are getting less popular. Google is not a fool to capture the market with adsense.
I think MSN is on the path to nowhere. Slowly it has gone down and down, I just dont think it can at all keep up with the other 2 (google and yahoo) I rarely even see msn crawl my sites now - maybe once a week.
adCenter gets enough traffic, sadly, to make it worth one's time assuming that you're not in a peculiar niche that only performs in certain networks. The client I'm working with now has enough data going back over a year or so on several networks with a pretty big budget outlay and keyword set to iron out the statistical anomalies and, over time, YSM provides about 60% of the clicks of AdWords while adCenter provides about 10-20% (normally I'd give a flat number, but some unpredictability in adCenter has caused a massive variation in the data in the last six months). While 10-20% results in a much smaller yield, it's still way, way too big to ignore. Anyway, PPC traffic has been trending downward over the last year or so for this client, but I'm fairly certain that this is a function of competition in the marketplace and the institution of all kinds of new rules by the networks (quality score and such) in addition to people becoming slightly savvier concerning contextual ads. I don't think it's because "search" is less popular, that seems like a silly notion.
About 4% of my organic traffic comes from MSN - really low I know but I would rather get that 4% than nothing at all!
Woot, so that ain't enough ? MSN Messenger is way better than Yahoo, ICQ and all other IM together. 'nuff said.
MSN is pretty bad... I think the only people who still use that are the people who just learn about the internet, but don't know how to type in another search engine address. I don't think these people actually use the web very much which is why we dont get traffic from them.
Same for me. Traffic coming in by the dribbles. Glad at least the clicks are cheap and convert pretty well too. Would love a HUGE volume from them though. I can never ever hit my budget, no matter how much/little I set it at
MSN.com draws 96Million Viewers/month. 38Million Searches (in the search bar)/month! About 10% of PPC Market. Near 80% of searchers during last 6 months have purchased! High Quality Clicks from an Affluent Audience, most $50k+/yr. [qualified source] adCenter may not produce the traffic of "Google" or "Yahoo" but does produce consistent Healthy Conversions, most times at a lower (CPC) cost per click. The User Interface may be daunting to start, but gets easier. (check the "videos" in the help link) Local Targeting of Cities does miss some traffic because of IP assignments; but a Parallel Campaign by Country with Geo-Specific Keywords ie: "Vancouver Olympics" will pickup the balance. The Research Tool provides traffic data for keywords, it's important to consider as MSN audience may choose keywords differently than others. adCenter Customer Service is Highly Motivated to Serve. And with the recent Upgrade to the Interface, additional Features and focus on Relevance , it's a "Relatively Smooth and Profitable Experience!" Notes from adCenter Blog: Although results may vary for individual advertisers, several independent third party analyses have shown that Microsoft adCenter produces good conversion rates in comparison to the other major search engines. These studies don’t mean that advertisers will always see better results on Microsoft, nor that advertisers will never encounter traffic quality problems and will need to report them. However, these studies should be taken as evidence that Microsoft has a high quality network and is working hard to maintain high standards of traffic quality: - WebsideStory (US, Feb. 2006, www|websidestory|com) reported that MSN Search* commanded a 6.03% conversion rate, higher than the conversion rates of Yahoo! (4.07%) and Google (3.83%). - Atlas Quality of Click Study (UK, 2007) found that conversion rates from Live Search were, on average, 35% higher than those of the other engines. - Online Shopper Profile (France, 2007) found that although customers coming from Live Search made up 6% of searches, they accounted for 11% of conversions. - Nielsen NetRatings (UK, June 2006 and Feb. 2007) found that referred Live Search users spent 27% more time on-site than those of the other engines. - Compete (US, Compete Quarterly Conversion Benchmarking Study, Q4 2006, Compete, Inc.) found that Live Search converted at a higher rate than did Google across all vertical industries reviewed, including B2B (1.6% vs. 0.5%), Travel (1.9% vs. 1.7%), Consumer electronics (1.3% vs. 1.1%), and Retail (2.6% vs. 2.3%). - Nielsen NetRatings (US, Dec. 2005) reported in a study of the travel industry that $1 spent on MSN Search* drives $37 payback, compared to $21 payback on Yahoo! and $22 payback on Google.
Im not sure if those are true. Even if we can make higher conversion in MSN, how much sales do you expect to get? adCenter don't drive traffics. This could be because of their amateur editorial team who keep on rejecting your relevant keywords. For example: If you have "used car" website, they allow you to bid on "used car" but they claim it to be irrelevant if you bid on "usedauto" and will reject your keywords. And how is "used car" != "usedauto" ??
MSn crawling is also very down in my site, the most high crawling rate on my site is of Google! My site is indexed in google and yahoo and performing very well but msn is not crawling.
Thanks drmcgarry for that informative post. As far as Im concerned, any quality traffic at any volume is good for me. Especially if I can buy it cheaper than at Adwords or YPN. I just build it up bit by bit from where ever the people are
OK, sure yahoo and google provide 80% of my organic traffic but MSN has about a 5% share. Suits me, more visitors the better......
I am receiving some traffic from MSN. Not much but as long as I am not paying for it I am extremly happy that I have it.
I wouldn't say that MSn doens't give traffic. I would just say the traffic is very small. However, the money that you have to spend per conversion is significantly less than that on google, and yahoo. don't neglect MSn it cna drastically increase your overall ROI
