I have submitted a site 3 times over the past two months to MSN Live and have yet to get the site indexed. I have done this before for many sites and had no issues. Is anyone else experiencing these problems?
Gaining backlinks to your site and letting them crawl you naturally is surely a better idea, or am I mistaken?
With that kind of attitude they would be. You should get in all the majors not just Google, MSN search for example is default on most PC's that you buy.
You are absolutely correct, i don't remember if i have submitted any of my websites to any search engines for the last 1-2 years! Just do some simple link building and your site will be indexed in all search engines, If you have a niche website then MSN, yahoo and even AOL will bring you visitors, along with google!
LOL! Live actually brings me much more traffic than Google in some cases... especially with my web directories . MSN doesn’t filter out as much as Google. *Like some of the members said previously... taking the natural approach to get indexed in Live results in a higher position in the SERPS.
I nevr submit site at msn as msn automaticlly spiders the site if you link is present on other sites.. I submit to google and google only..
Your missing the point here. Even if msn gave you one customer it could be the one who spends money compared to a thousand waste of time visitors sent to you by Google. The best advice is to get listed in all majors.
I'd venture to say the traffic Live is sending to your Web Directory is the same as mine - Few humans and the rest just Referrer Spam.
Build quality backlinks and let MSN/Live crawl your site automatically, without you prodding it with a large stick. MSN is now my second biggest referred, only beaten by Google. I get around 15% of traffic from Live, 60% from Google, 12% from Yahoo..and the rest...from other sites/directories/known customers, etc. Certainly worth the hard work, IMO.
It's not only to my web directories... some of my niche affiliate sites are ranking high in live.com and getting majority of traffic from those phrases .
Wish I could say the same. My referrer logs are all filled with generic one word keywords that Live uses to apparently test for cloaking. People have been complaining about this for a while, but Microsoft still defends the practice. I have some other sites that hold high rankings in Live, and at most Live sends 2% of the traffic as Google does. Any traffic is better then none, but it still pales in comparison to Google and even Yahoo.
No, I haven't MSN crawls my site every other week on average, sometimes less and sometimes more. You should use MSN webmaster tools, and submit a sitemap. I normally ping MSN again (resubmitting a sitemap) when I add something new to the site. And then normally MSN will crawl the site with no problems.
I was told that I should never submit my site to a search engine, if I build quality backlinks I will get listed in all the major search engines, that's what I did and it worked.
