This should induce healthy competition for Google. This should be a win for the consumer/end-user.

Haha, did anyone else have visions of SERPs as easy to get into as MSN on Yahoo? Maybe that's just my sick and twisted mind...but it definately makes me all for this..

MSN is considering a major purchase of Yahoo stock because they know it will increase with YPN.

When there is competetion between MSN/Yahoo and Google, webmasters will be benfited. Both will care for webmasters now.

Or Yahoo would become even more bloated with a bunch of corporate leadership and serve only the larger portals with lots of inventory and start booting individual hobbyist webmasters off their program, leading to G being the only low paying option for a lot of us.

The deal is going to blow up in their faces as they still won't be able to figure things out and Google will grow to 100% market share. That is my prediction.

wait a minute.... (as he looks back into the news archives)
MSN tries to buy AOL, Google steps in and buys a chunk of it instead .... MSN runs off with tail between legs .... MSN has a new idea and tries to buy Yahoo ... (some pattern we are developing here)

This happening would not suprise me at all. Microsoft considers Google one of biggest threats to their business. MSN has not really delivered on the market share that was hoped, so this may be a way to gain a little more market share in the SE market.

never happen, it would go against everything microsoft are trying to do with msn adcenter going forward. And Yahoo are about to release some major new functionalities in its overture so they need time to evaluate its success or not.

Plus industry won't let that happen, microsoft will be too big and the whole (monopoly) issues will come up!

I read somewhere that they are now trying to negotiate a YPN and Adcenter partnership to take on Google. You never know if things like this are true or if the writers are confused. The writers usually don't understand enough to get it completely right.

Total crap. The fact that the article is only 4 short paragraphs makes it totally unreliable. Microsoft wouldn't benefit at all from acquiring a fully developed portal.

It isn't a total sale but just a portion of Yahoo. It is an effort to combine skills and knowledge to try to knock out Google.

Very low chance of this happening but you never know Microsoft. MS knows that Google is the biggest competitor...Theres a war going on betn the two...MS added their own search box to I.E 7 which they say is not changeable....Google is promoting FF and so on.. MS knows it cannot beat Google all alone by itself and are asking help from Yahoo. This would be a great battle where webmasters like us would get alot of Goodies ;). MSN + Yahoo can burn Google thts for sure

to beat google, you have to develop better search engines, not merge companies.
The money in the aquisition would be better invested in development and research
