    Hello there...

I'm trying to understand what exactly are all those groups, how to get more people join your group and how to use it to get more visitors to your site..

So I'd appreciate if anyone can tell something from his experience about this kind of promotion :)

First of all, you need to have a group, that topic is relater to your website and it's main purpose should be not to advertise your site, but to give information wanted by your groups' members. If people like your group, they will invite their friends and other people who are interested in your topics.

Also, you can give your subscribers information that is not seen on your website, just like exclusive content for subscribers.

When you get many subscribers in your group, you can add signature line to your group with your website address as related content or a site of your community.

    Hope it helps.

I'm not sure how it is with MSN Groups, but on Yahoo! Groups there was quite nice directory, which can help find a group you need.

And mine group was created as a site's newsletter, so main subscribers came from site, but having that group made them loyal to our community.

SE engine traffic is rare in groups.

You will have to invite people to your group. People may find your group themsevles while searching for groups database, but this is a slow process.

    Whats your group about?

I prefer Yahoo groups as it already has a very large user base compared to Google and MSN.

I guess you cannot generate good traffic from Gorups. The groups are only good for the guys who cannot have their own websites.

The biggest advantage of having groups is that you keep reminding people to come back to your site.

I used to have pretty big groups in the past, but they became too big to manage and I closed them.

Here is one of my earlier ones..

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BazaarAlchemy/

Someone cracked my Yahoo password and unfortunately I was the only moderator of this group...its dead now.
