I've slipped to #5, the site that replaced me at #1 slipped to #4, two moved up and someone new is at #1. Does seem to be specific to industry and/or keywords. Not that I get alot of traffic from MSN, but the few signups I get from them are usually quite loyal, although generally newbies. Experienced webmasters use Google, and there seems to be something happening to my rankings there as well, so perhaps it is something in my site... Guess what I'll be doing tonight.
Well my rankings are slowly but surely coming back upto the top of the SERPS. About half have been put back to where they were and I am sure the rest will follow. Here's to more good times with MSN
I will take all the visitors MSN wants to send my way. 1, 10 or 100, I will take them all. Thanks MSN!
Mine keep jumping back and forth. I'm in...then I'm out. I'm seeing rankings being dropped all together and the following day I'm #1. There's definitely something screwy going on and eventually they'll get it sorted out. If for nothing else, it makes my mornings interesting.."What will MSN do today?" -Chris
I've seen huge change as a result of this algo update on a site that uses heavy link vault, and almost none on the non-link vault site. Any similarities for Coop users? LV is treating me badly recently...
I'm using LV, but I'm not ready to say all the bizarro-ness at MSN has been impacted by having LV. That being said, I use LV very lightly. Slow and steady has been my LV strategy. My rankings are starting to come back, but it's still not where it was. How is LV treating you badly? Anything other than MSN? -Chris
LV was killer on MSN. I was first page almost at will for relevant terms. I was one of the first LV users, so these links came on slowly. While LV didn't seem to hurt this site on G or Y as it did on MSN, it never really helped on G or Y. Other than that LV is treating me badly 'cause I can't seem to effectively use my vaultage. I'll just wind up with a bunch of links from the same site if I stay within my category. Plus they've had some technical difficulty as a result of the hurricane.
MSN came back big time for me today. I'd be happy with MSN if things stayed the same (or better). Better is always good. I have a fair amount of LinkVault links coming in/out. -Chris
Anyone else think that through the recent changes MSN has a new slightly increased reliance on linking? Seems that way to me for how things shook out. My well linked sites returned to their normal positions... Medium linked sites settled a bit behind where they were before, and the sites with not many links at all pretty much dropped out.
MSN has always been fond of links. They may have tweaked things a bit but it still looks like the more links you have the better you rank.
Well I always find my newly posted blog articles and sites to appear in msn first for example: Searching my site "Msn Discussion" on MSN reveals our site on the first page at number 1. http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=msn+discussion However if I do the same search with Google we are not because Google uses its back link system the more links you have on other sites to your site the higher your rank: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=msn+discussion Also if I search for “kitty caper help†in both search engines notice how Msn's search result is better than Google's because the first link it gives you is my site which actually gives you help on the game than the first link in the Google Search result! http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=kitty+caper+help http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=kitty+caper+help I guess over time my Msn Discussion site and maybe the my kitty caper help page will eventually be on the first page of Google but that might take a while! Edit: made links clickable for quicker access.
