I still can't figure out what happened to my pages that completely disappeared. MSN is not even coming back and spidering my pages and they were being hit multiple times a day before. So my cached pages are now 4+ days old in some cases.

wow. that's weird. All my pages have literally increased in their index and fully up to date too. MSNbot is having a normal activity as always. Hundreds of hits every day. Please keep us informed when you get indexed again, it will be interesting to know.

MSN is a mess right now, jumping all over the place.

    Up down, left, right,

It ranks mirror sites and all kinds of strange things..

You cannot run a site that jumps up and down.. it means your content is constantly rubbish, because you have to keep changing it so much to suit the fluctations. Its too hard to have a business model that way.

Put my sites back at the top and leave it alone and everything will be fine ;)

Not being a programmer, is it that hard to make a sensible algo that doesnt act like a bucking bronco ?

There are still going to be lots of changes.. backgammon spam is down, but not out..
When the new msn hype was around I assumed that it would get very good very quick with that kind of backing.

Well, after reading a post by webmistress, I took a look at the number of pages indexed by MSN for my site. And, MSN is showing a big increase in the number of pages indexed for my site.

Here's what I noticed and I hope it's not the problem. I'm thinking it's not because so many other peeps are seeing the drop in rankings also.

A few months ago I created a subdirectory on the site (www.site.com/new/)
Then, I purchased a domain for it. The site was indexed by the search engines under the new domain.
A couple of weeks ago, I added a link from one of my main pages to the new directory with the link of (www.site.com/new/) not the new domain. Now, I see that the site is listed under the new domain and under my subdirectory in MSN. Does anyone think this might have set off a duplicate content penalty ?

I just went and changed the link on my page to reflect the new domain.
But, the pages are already indexed. So, I'm not sure this will help right away.

Yeah I am still not showing up but I am still showing shake-ups in the rankings at the top for several keywords.

Funny thing is one of my sites that is at the top in several smaller keywords moved up into the top 20 for the first time for a much more competitive keyword and absolutely nothing has changed with that site... I did notice it has not been indexed since the 19th though. So perhaps it is just capitalizing on others bad fortune.

I don't think you need to change anything. As some people are saying here, old content is appearing in the serps so maybe msn is just showing a partial index of what it indexed months ago and an up to date one. MSN will surely interpret this redirection correctly when it becomes more stable.

I have some pages which have duplicate content. I have no problem with that, as the pages are built for users -- not search engines.

Google ignores all but one copy of the pages. Yahoo seems to ignore me entirely. MSN doesn't seem to have a duplicate content filter. All of the pages get traffic from MSN.

Very true. I've been noticing this for a while now. Actually something I saw about a week ago - the same page, listed twice in the serps. #1, & #11. Each had a different cache date. Not there anymore.. Go figure :)

    cheers,

Me too. I miss those MSN users so much -- because their CTR is more than twice as high as that of visitors from Google.

I was getting maddening numbers of clicks yesterday on one of my $4 keywords.

Alas, today both MSN and Google dropped me from page one for that SERP.

My retirement has been postponed again. :D

Youch, same here. One of my $20/day pages was thrown back to page 6 from page 1.

That's $20 less I'll get today now.. *sniff, I'll wait for it to bounce back. They always do!

I would not count on a bounce back. I think MSN is getting smarter with their algo and have discounted site-wide links as well as some other stuff.

Thanks. I feel better now about them both being indexed.

But, what am I going to do about losing my rankings in MSN? :(
I don't think it will be turning back to the way it was. I'm not as optimistic as some of you are.

Well, I'm going to start getting some more BL. Maybe, that will help.

I just checked a site that I'm currently working on. It's not done yet and I have not submitted it anywhere or done a link campaign. But, it's now #1 in MSN for it's main keyword. Great, the site's not ready but people are coming! Oy Vay! And, you know if I rush to complete it that's when it will drop from the first page.

    What a day!
