I'm pretty amazed just how bad MSN advanced match is. Their matching seems to work on both the prefix and suffix of keywords, which means negative matching on some terms could be quite limitless. I have seen searches for 'golf club' trigger an advert with the keyword 'dating club'. Other searches for 'night club' do the same thing. The worst I have seen is the keyword 'dating in Manchester' match against a search for 'Manchester builders' - Simply broad matching against 'manchester'. How bad is that? Surely you can't expect to negatively match anything that could fit with 'Manchester'...! Has anyone else seen some pretty awful matching like this? I'm after further opinions. I wrote a blog post about my findings here. http://www.ppcblog.co.uk/ppc/microsofts-advanced-match-laughable/ Cheers.
I have to be honest I don't understand what you are saying. Do you know this from actually running the campaigns? IE you are running the campaign with dating club and seeing it show up on a search for golf club? Or are you just seeing the results and making an inference?
This particular example I have analysed is not one of my clients own campaigns. I have seen some examples of bad advanced matching with them, but I can't really use my own clients... This example was a pretty funny one I stumbled accross. They have keyword tracking, so you can see what term they are bidding on and what they are displaying for. As I mentioned in the post, their keyword tracking could be inaccurate - But I have seen many instances of matching like this, I would be suprised if it's not correct. I will have a look for more example when I have time. Has anyone else not seen any bad matching like this?
I will have to check and see. I go over my keyword data pretty thoroughly, and have not personally seen anything like that, but I will take another look. It wouldn't suprise me, as it is clear they left beta too early. I have some compound matches though, so I will see if I am getting any partial matches on those.
