As the article says.. http://news.com.com/Microsoft+shows+off+improved+search/2100-1032_3-6102892.html?tag=cd.top I wonder how this will affect rankings of both legitimate and spam sites alike...
interesting, i hope msn takes #2 spot from yahoo since yahoos alg is messed and it says in here IE is 83% share of browser thats great....
The researchers applied factors such as the amount of time spent "dwelling" on a given page, the page with the most "dwell time" for a user given the user's average dwell time per page, ... PHP: Wow, this is genius, So from now on we have to find a way to persuade users to stay longer on our pages.
MSN for some reason is always first on the block indexing my website... They must be doing something right.
I don't think that's a good thing. I can just see it now, all the popunders opening up unknowingly and/or minimized and not even showing.
According to the paper this wouldn't work because the url of the popunder is different from the url of the page that people searched for it.
This does seem rather interesting, I wouldn't be surprised if numerous exploits appear in its first few months... but it's like that for all new methods.
But that's kinda very veryyy hard to do. I mean VERY hard to do. People on internet don't have a lot of time because they are in a hurry and want to get to what they want pretty quickly. Wasn't that the reason why Google topped the search market? They delivered the results right according to the searched keyword. Now, making users STAY on a website is extremely difficult.
Not sure I agree. Users will instantly go "back", or close the tab if the SE link isn't what they wanted, but will stay for atleast 30 seconds for the correct result. Authority, and content rich, sites will love this method.
I have been suspecting this for some time now.... I think Google has been doing this already...... Analytics..... This is where search marketing is going..... You absolutely have to keep a good percentage of users on your site or you will be heading for trouble in the serps..... IMO If 90 - 95% go for the back button, do not return, and do not stay on your site for more then 30 seconds, it's time to start really thinking about this.
