Hello, I've set up my Amazon Store with MrRat's script and have been working on the design and improvements lately. My page and some product pages were indexed by google but all of a sudden I realized that Google doesn't index my site any more. Why did this happen? Did Google ban my site? Is it possible to get it back or can I make Google index my page after I build more content?? My page: http://www.techtoyboy.com
That sort of thing happens sometimes. You can wait for a while. Try use google webmaster tool, add your site, sitemap there. Also you can add some relevant backlinks. In case you didn't use some black hat techniques, your site have to get back into google index. In any case I guess you get more help and good advices in SE category http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4
I didn't use any techniques yet actually because the site is under construction yet but I was worried about it getting indexed first and then getting out.
It happened with me sometime with my AOM site. Google may think your site is a duplicated site from other site using same script. Just find some backlinks and your index should be back.
Yeah, Mr. Rat's script, and any Amazon feed script, is bound to produce a duplicate content problem. You have to work on making yours unique, by adding articles, featured content etc. etc. It can be done, but I have been very lazy with my Amazon store, and I can see organic searches have slipped a fair bit...
I agree with markowe. Just modify your apf. Since used by lots of publishers, the uniqueness gone. May be you can add few keyword before or after title.
Would it be okay if I add articles and reviews to my landing page and link the items to product links. So Would Google see the content at my homepage and give traffic to it without considering the duplicate content on other parts?
I personally think this would help a lot - the duplicate content "footprint" happens when you have ONLY Amazon products on your page, then they all look the same. A bit of original content would work wonders I should think - in my Amazon stores, the pages with original content definitely get more traffic, and links shouldn't cause any problem at all. If you can, change or shorten the names of the Amazon products - they often have very long titles which are rather recognisable.
You should just Google for more info. The site is here: http://www.mrrat.com/aws/ The script uses Perl, needs to be installed in your cgi-bin and it has a simple system of templates whereby you can add Amazon searches, item lookups, even a shopping cart to your site. However, you do need to know a bit about programming - if you just install it as a standalone package it looks very ugly, and all it really is is a "copy" of the entire Amazon site. And it won't get indexed, as explained above. You can see a test version installed here: http://www.itsgottabered.com/cgi-bin/apf4/red-store.cgi I don't work on getting this indexed, no-one would buy through a site that looked like that! Rather, I connect with the script and use it to insert Amazon content on other sites. Good script, but it's rather complicated and hard to customise in some ways - I am working on my own little script.
Try joomla and apf bridge, like my sites http://yudhis97.com and http://blackjavacoffee.com (new site) Just SEO, hugh trafic and index ...
MrRat's script is hard to work with. I changed my idea and I consider using ASM2 script with Wordpress add-on for now.
I have used AOM, ASM2 and Mr Rats script over the past 5 years and have had the best results in the search engines with Mr Rats script. I have checked a couple different duplicate content tools and they seem to work on the pattern of the content as well as the copy, so if you move your content around with a template you can pass the duplicate test. Mr Rats script does take some knowledge of HTML and working with a script, but the results are worth it. The other two are good programs also, just not my first choice...
