Mozilla FireFox Browser: Which add on(s) do you use? Which add.ons/Plugin are the best? And Why.

I would like to start this thread because a lot of my friends who use firefox want to know what plug ins i use.

Putting these in the order that i would install first them - but i use these most of the time so maybe order is not relevant :)

    NoScript
This for me is one of the most important addon to the firefox browser. The reason is because when i go to a webpage i really have no idea what i will find there. I have been to webpages that will lauch all kinds of scripts and most of them are from websites other than the one i just visited.
Some might say this addon is a pain becuase you have to approve each website - but for me i love that ability. I am the one that says that i want to see those ads or allow those scripts from off sites to show up in my browser.
Alot of bad websites are out there and this for me is a tool that "helps" block bad scripts.

You can also set in the options to allow any website in your bookmarks to have access - you dont have to approve that site. This is good. If for example you have google.com bookmarked then you would not need to approve google.com - but if on the google site they show ads from doubleclick.com and you dont want to see them - then you do nothing and you will not see the ads. You can see in a list all the off site urls that want to launch in your browser. You can then approve any of them, or just leave them be.

Its a very nice plugin :)

    WebMail Notifier
This is a excellent plugin too. It supports 7 free webmail companies. Anyway, I have many yahoo and a few gmail email accounts - I use different email names so that i know where the email is coming from. Well this wonderful plug in will go look for email at all the accounts every x minutes. You tell it to go look every 10 minutes, 60 minutes etc. I have been using this for over 3 months and it works perfect. I always know the instant a new message has arrived.

    FasterFox
This plugin is supposed to make firefox load webpages faster. I installed it and i really do not know its true benchmark. But i saw great review about this free software so its in my top list of free plugins to get :) Maybe someone who knows more about benchmarks for loading webpages could comment for the benefit of others.

    ShowIP
For me Show IP is very important - why you ask? WELLLL, for me its another level of protection from url spoofing. For example, when i go to paypal or alertpay or my bank - I "Know" what there IP addresses should be. I will write them down. Then each time i go to my bank to check my statement - i not only make sure the browser is encrypted, but i make sure that the url IP address for that website is exactly the one i wrote down. It only takes me a few seconds to check in my notebook. Some may think this is silly to go thru this step. But i want to make sure that the website that i am about to key in my password and user ID is the company i think it is. :) The other nice thing about this plugin is that you can just right click on the options and then you can see the dns information about that ip address. DNS data might say the IP for that server is located in the USA or UK or Canada, Etc. I use it a lot actually.

    ReLoadEvery
Ok this is another of my favorites. There are many times that i have been on membership websites where if you do not perform any activity on thier site the system will log you out. Well this happened to me a lot before i got this free plugin. All you do is go to such a website, and if you need to walk away from your computer and you do not want to log out and log back in later - you can in the options, tell the plugin to reload the page every 10 minutes for example; that way when you come back to the page you are still logged in.

    Colorzilla
Colorzilla is a tool i use in my graphic designs. I create animated banner ads, top header graphics etc for my clients and for the creative i will need to know the exact color to use for thier graphics. If they give me their website url and say match the website colors - then with this tool i just point to that color section - i just click on that color then right click - to find the exact web image color. I use this every day.

    ImageZoom
This i do not use everyday - but there have been times where i just want to zoom in on a graphic on a website - and this free software will do just that.

Ok i hope this information has been helpful. Please share your comments and even include plugin that you use and just tell everyone how it has made your web browsing experience even better.

Side Note: Always keep your version of Firefox up to date.

    Richie :)

I'm using Firefox, with FasterFox as well as a few other plugins.

Personally, I am against AdBlocker, as they hurt the webmasters.

I use SearchStatus, Screen grab, Live HTTP Headers and ColorZilla mainly. I like the SearchStatus one for seeing pageranks. :)

To conserve space i will just reply within:

sizzler_chetan: Very nice blog and summary of Firefox. Everyone go look. Its good info. I always wondered what the IEtab was Really used for? AND DANG - 7000+ posts I think that is Guru status :) to my less than 20 postings hehehehehe

lpxxfaintxx: Yes, i should have qualified my statement regarding adblocker. I too have that one installed. And just like i use NoScript to block all website scripts till i trust the website - it is the same with the adblocker. By Default all is blocked - and then for example after i went to sizzler_chetan site: I bookmarked his/her? site, which then unblocks NoScript and then i tell ABP to unblock this site from then on. In this way i am supporting sites that i visit - i have been know to even click on an ad that i wanted to know about :)

llamafier: Hello :) SearchStatus - excellent. I will have to go look for that one too. Colorzilla rocks yes? You use ones i have not seen before. I will go check them out.

AND who was so cool to select Survey Item #5 "what is an web browser"
I did that one for fun - i was going to put #6 "what is the Internet?" hehehehehe

Excellent - IE Tab is my new friend. I will install that now. There are many times that i need to check a website in IE but i am using such an old IE - like version 6x. Now i can check using the IE Tab but it will have the protection and wrapping of Firefox.
I can edit this out - but i got this summary for your blog. Great info again. "IE tab is a firefox extension which opens a web page in Internet explorer version, as a tab in firefox itself. You don’t need to have to open Internet explorer now to preview web pages."

    Thank you for that

    Opera FTW!
They are leading the way with HTML 5 for a start...:D plus it just runs much smoother for me.

But I do use FF from time to time. The add-ons I have: web developer, adblock, colorzilla, ie tab, spell checker, fasterfox (although it seems to do nothing), stumbleupon, google toolbar, html validator.

    LOL at that:D

I use adblock myself, but I disable them whenever I'm browsing away from warez and stuffs. Just to check that my sites are displaying the adsense ads:D

Can't even enable my KIS adblock feature because of my adsense ads.:(
