Moving Webhosts?

I've been thinking about changing web hosts.. my current one I have been with for about half a year and they have been great up until now when I installed Vbulletin on one of my sites. It seems to me as the resources they allow their clients sites to use can't handle vbulletin.. I constantly get mysql errors of the database timing out or not having enough memory and all I get is excuse after excuse from them...
So I'm thinking about changing hosts.

I've been looking at HostGator... they seem to have good reviews..
Can their resources handle a small-medium size forum without having any problems or becoming slow?

    Thanks for any input.

If you can give us the stats of your forum, we can tell you things more specifically.

    Stats such as what?
It's currently not very big (under 25 members, around 300 posts)
Don't expect it to get too big anytime soon.. so hoping to have a host that could hold up to lets say 500 members and 50,000 posts without a problem.

Hostgator will be able to handle your website for quite a time unless it gets quite busier. At the time you have 50,000 posts, you'll probably be kicked out before that for overusing the resources.

    - If the members are quite active, then you should consider going for another host. Hostgator is more likely to ask you for an upgrade or kick you off.

Well currently they aren't, it's a brand new site so looking for a cheap host that can handle it until it does get bigger, at that time I would move to a host that could better handle it.

So in your opinion, hostgator could definitely handle it for a while with no problems?

i'm surprised you are getting so many sql errors for such a small forum, your current host must not have their servers configure correctly because i run two vbulletin forums, 1 with 16,000 plus members with over 1 million post and the other with similar stats without any issues.

For a start, it won't be a problem, but yes later stage it would be. I think it is better to go on a good host from a start rather then changing it here and there.

If you are not satisfied with your current hosting provider then you must change them but make a thorough study before that.

Have you contacted your current hosts support desk - to check your server config - because the size of your site should not cause you such problems.

We host sites with huge databases without any such issues.

But if they can't solve the problem - don't worry there are plenty of hosts if you shop around that can provide resonable priced hosting for you now and can also provide larger plan upgrades as your sites grows.

Hostgator always has been one of the better options out there imo..

They can easily handle a medium-sized vBulletin forum

Let us know what you chose eventually !

To save the hassle, I would also check with your old host. It seems a pretty small forum to be causing too many errors.

    I suggest hostgator too.
You can start with the "Hatchling" package and upgrade it as your website grows

I would check around probably a lot more. Host Gator might look like they handle it, but with the term "unlimited" within their space / bandwidth, I feel you're best bet is to go after a medium sized host instead.
