So for the first 24 years of my life I have lived in England, but after meeting a new girl we have decided to move to Austin in Texas. Apparently it will be quite warm over there. I wont really know anyone over there so if there are ant web masters from the region feel free to get in touch, and if anyone has any advice hit me up with it because I know NOTHING about America! This will be me moving to a new country, with no working visa, wish me luck!
DP can be read in Texas. At least for now anyway. My geography classes fail me. Central an north Texas aren't all that hot, most days. Down by elPaso even the Devil stays away from in the summer.
Austin? I hope you like country music, Austin's full of it. I've never seen North Texas but I'm not too fond of Central or South. New Mexico and Arizona are far better looking.
I will be keeping my eye on the DP forum for work! My girlfriend used to DJ, and knows a lot of the DJ's in the area, most of them are dance related but I am sure they can point me in the direction of a decent rock joint. We will get married, not sure when! That will more be because we want to get married than live in America straight away, there's plenty of cities to see! And I think Texas is pretty central, it's south west of Dallas
Dude, are you planning to stay with her earning or what ? What about your Job ? Where do you stay now and whatd do you do ?? And good luck for Austin,Texas. You wont be in any problem in US,as there is 24hrs service by 911
Austin is in central Texas and can be quite warm (90s & 100s) during the summer. In winter it can get chilly, often below 30, but not for long. Overall, Austin is in the Texas Hill country where it is not flat but there are no major mountains. If you have a choice settle on the north end of Austin, or Leander, Round Rock, etc. Stay out of south and southeast Austin - that is where most of the crime is.
Congrats on leaving the shithole that is the UK - the country is going down! I dont' know much about Texas, so I'll leave it to the others to tell you more.
Good luck to you for transferring new county in the world !! Take care of you and also be carefull with other people of that country also. Hope you will settle in short time without any type of problem..
Congratulations! I am from the Dallas area, which is a few hours north or Austin but I'm planning on moving to Austin soon! maybe I'll see you around! I also have family that lives in the Stratford on Avon area in England.
I'm in Louisiana, which is next door to Texas. I love going to Texas. It's huge and lots of pretty women I got some family down in Austin. Austin is a big musical city. The greatest blues/rock guitarist that ever lived is from there (Stevie Ray Vaughan).
"It's huge and lots of pretty women" The Future wife might have something to say about that Iamays, what kind of music are you into in Dallas, my GF is part of the whole DallasDanceMusic scene and did a lot of DJing over in Dallas, + knew a lot of DJ's over there, just had Misty, Phillis and Mo stay over at our house and they are pretty regular DJ's in the Dallas area. "If you have a choice settle on the north end of Austin, or Leander, Round Rock, etc. Stay out of south and southeast Austin - that is where most of the crime is." Yeah there are a lot of nice apartments in Noth Austin, we don't drive though so to avoid a daily bus journey we will be moving into the 'downtown' area! "Dude, are you planning to stay with her earning or what ?" Initially she will be the only one earning any real money, I am just going to have to comb all the freelancing sites every day for work, my own websites bring in a fair amount of cash each month so I won't be destitute just broke After a few months there I will be able to get a working visa sorted with any luck, then I'll woo the customers with my english accent and end the day with my pockets bulging with tips! "What about your Job ?" I handed my notice in on friday, it was a good wage job with friendly people and secure in the middle of a recession, but I thought to myself, If i am going to do something stupid I may as well do it while I'm still young "Where do you stay now and whatd do you do ??" I live in york (Beautiful city, would highly recommend it, live in a 500 year old house, which is older than the country i'm moving to!) and have an office job which is slowly but surely draining my will to live. "Congrats on leaving the shithole that is the UK - the country is going down!" - I agree, we are becoming further and further taxed, we are getting less and less and now to top it all off we haven't had a decent year of sunshine in 4 years!
Well I am English and have lived all over the world. including France, Holland, Italy, Spain, Norway and I lived in three spots in the US - DC, Key Largo and Phoenix, I have to say that Phoenix was phenominal, the weather, the openess, the surrounds, a stone throw from the grand canyon and Sedona. Just about perfect (for me) Probably return for a much longer stay soon. For me England has lost it's identity. We don't even say English any more, we now say British!
"We don't even say English any more, we now say British!" Too true, if you try and retain any sense of british culture now you are branded racially insensative. PErsoanlly I think anyone should eb able to come over here, but they shouldn't complain when tehy have to adapt to our culture and have people joke about their beliefs, Britain is about wit sarcasm and dry humour, if people come to england not expecting that then they generally will get pissed off pretty damn quicky!
Starting over and moving to another country is always a great adventure and it demands a lot of courage and self confidence I wish you good luck!
I have a similar goal to go to US in 3 years from now But my choice will be Miami !!! good luck with your new life !!
The grass is always greener. The US may become more socialist than the UK over the next few years. Then what?
