Moving to a new host

I've decided to move to a new host now that some of my sites are taking off.

Currently I'm with cyberwurx, and have been very happy for the last 6 years. But some of my new sites will have alot of video and my host does not have an upgrade plan that is reasonably priced with decent storage.

So I'm off to find a host that has alot of diskspace and bandwidth for a low price. I've come across hostgator which has unlimitted disk space and bandwidth. Does anyone recommend anything better? I've heard both good and bad things about hostgator.

unlimited disk space should not be an issue, but unlimited bandwidth, something you need to stay within limit, if your site overload a server or use high amount of CPU than host will ask you to move to VPS or dedicated, because unlimited bandwidth is good only as long as site does not overload CPU

There is no such thing as unlimited disk space or bandwidth, so take that into consideration. Not only is it technically not possible (have you seen an unlimited space hard drive at your local Best Buy lately?) there are ALWAYS other limitations that will apply long before you use any considerable amount of disk space or bandwidth. You will need to read the Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy VERY carefully if going with one of those companies.

Also, many companies do not allow storage of video files, etc., so again, make sure to read the TOS and AUP.

A lot of people do use HostGator and are quite happy. Others are not happy at all. There are probably thousands of reviews out there regarding HG.

If your sites are going to be extremely busy, chances are you will be kicked off of most shared hosts, normally due to CPU usage, RAM usage, etc. That being said, VPS/dedicated servers are certainly be an option as well.

what is your budget. For high bandwidth usage sites, shared hosting may not be good.

You really should look into a VPS (virtual private server) if you have a lot of traffic with videos.

If you're happy with your current host, be wary about moving. Not all hosts are the same, and if you find a good one they are often worth sticking with. They won't have been a good host for nothing, and if you are going to need lots of space and bandwidth and they don't have a plan that is within your budget, then you should be thinking about why that is. Obviously there's something preventing your "good host" from offering that, so why would you think that another company can offer the same service, more resources, and do it for less money?

As for unlimited hosting, it is technically feasible to offer it, you just won't be able to take advantage of it. As has already been said, read the Terms and Acceptable Use Policy carefully, and try to understand how any limitations that are quoted will affect you - it isn't always obvious - because these clauses are there so the host can shut you down if you start to cost them too much.

Like I have said many times, no, there is no way to technically offer unlimited hosting. There will always be bandwidth limitations, there will always be hard drive limitations, and then there are profit limitations. It is not "technically feasible" nor will it ever be for a host to let you an entire server or more worth of resources for $3/mo. Not going to happen.

I believe that it will be a good idea to contact their support, see how fast they will respond and how knowledgeable they are.
Try discuss with them all the issues you are interested in.

You should not be choosing a host based only on reviews. Test that host's support very calmly by visiting them too often because support is the main aspect of this business having huge role and all reliable hosts have quality and friendly support.

Always consider only money back guarantee offering hosts so you can test their services with out any risk.

moneyback guarantee host gives you time to decide weather you really want stay with them, but choosing any money-back guarantee host really doesn't means you will get what you looking for, as many host do not refund once they receive money, and many use it as a advertising tool, but when it comes to reality they will not refund you, and not only just testing host may have downside of your sites as well, as many time you move hosting you will have problems and so your website will face downtime and data loss etc

So always talk to a hosting representative and see how good their support it, before going for a host

Quality hosts always refund if they promise on their web and I guess checking support quality calmly can lead towards selecting right and quality host. As nice & friendly support with quick response time and professional behavior are things that a quality host with always has.

I do use Hostgator and i can say you should go with them if the uptime, reliability and support is your priority. Im not sure regarding Videos streaming, it takes alot of CPU i think but you may Ask hosting support to tell you.

Before you select a host for shared plan, you should briefly study Terms of services of them because you will be streaming live and most hosts do not offer it in shared hosting.
