    Hi,

I have been thinking about moving my complete site to a different domain with different content. Currently, the site that i have is made by me with very less knowledge. However, it is 6 years old and have very very good backlinks and rankings for popular keywords.

Problem is, what happens if i redirect all traffic to my new domain? Will my rankings become my new domain's rankings ? What I am afraid is lose all the rankings for old domain, get no traffic neither on my old domain nor on my new domain.

Has anyone experienced this before? What were the results?

I would appreciate if anyone can help me.

    Thanks

    S.

Implement the 301 redirect on your blog. That should do the trick for a starter.

I do not see the logic behind this move. You changed the domain to a newer, plus your content will be completely changed either. I would recommend you avoid this change because it does not worth it. Your site will completely lost in ranking for every popular keywords it's already ranked. Why?

    1. You just switched from old aged domain to a new one. Most people are likely to do the opposite what you are going to do. You have trashed out the most important advantage - Domain Age

    2. You said your old domain already has a very good backlinks. Please be noted - Same links for different site has a different value. You will lost link power more than a half even with the same link. This is because of your new domain has no trust yet.

Bottom Line : Please change your mind or it would be a huge lost for you and your site.

Use 301 redirect, and at first you should make sure two of your site could be visit, when your new site has good rank and visitors, you can delete the 301
