Hi Needing some advice on IP addresses. We are in the process of looking to move our website www.johnnysinajiffy.com to a dedicated IP address with the same company its currently hosted with. By moving to a different IP address, can this in anyway affect our SERPS? Can anyone advise thanks in advance
If you previously shared an ip with any bad neighborhood or spammy websites, this move may have a big effect. Most likely it won't make any difference though.
the IP i was on before was fine, we have some really good SERPS, and I just dont want to do anything to affect those
If you are more concerned about losing rankings, I wouldn't worry about it much. Just make sure that the website is down as little as possible during the transfer. There is a chance that if the website is down at all, you could suffer a temporary drop in rankings. As long as your site hasn't had a history of server problems, those rankings should come right back fairly quickly.
ive been advised by host its normally very quick, however maximum time could be 48hrs depending on DNS propagation the reason why i was so worried, im sure i had read somewhere that it can affect your SERPS, so i just wanted to double check, before i got it moved over
Moving to a new Dedicated Class C IP from a Shared IP will surely benefit you in a great way But Moving with the Same Company won't give you much benefit in my view....as the Class C IP address will be the same....and thts what Google sees when it wants to know all websites hosted on current host, especially...if that host has a website that is punished in some way So, I will suggest, if you really want to move, Move to an Established Company asking them for a Dedicated IP Moving to a Dedicated IP within the same company will just provide you Speed Benefits as there is no Sharing on the IP address, so your site will load a bit faster than it used to be....
Hi thanks for your comments, I am actually moving to a Dedicated IP, to get SSL setup on the website & also to have a dedicated IP has other benefits as mentioned above
you will be fine. i did this a few months back. the dns issue did affect my traffic for about 3 days but after a week i was back to normal.
