Moving from Frontpage 2003 to Dreamweaver mx

My website looks fine in Frontpage, it also looks normal in internet explorer and firefox. But when I open the page in Dreamweaver the tables stack on top of each other rather then the way they normally look on a browser. What is the cause of this? Example My navbar is now directly above the content rather then to the left in Dreamweaver design veiw.

the main reason for me changing over is I have a shopping cart integration tool that works with frontpage, I went to purchase the newest upgrade, and frontpage(or another force) will not let go all of the old files. So when I install the newer program it doesn't work. more than 20 hours of installing, uninstalling, rebooting, file searching, browsing through windows explorer and manually removing files, they still come back. So the company supplied me with the same brand tool that integrates into Dreamweaver.

I know many basics of Dreamweaver, but I am currently in school taking up html. So my knowledge is very limited.

At first glance it looks related to the 'template' option. I am working, so I can't really check.

I found I had to redesign pages when I moved over to dreamweaver. Alot of my pages are still in frontpage because they do not change that often, but it appears that Dreamweaver has problems with how FP does tables.

I know people slag off FP and I do agree that DW is tons better, but for newbies it's the best best out of the two.

One of the reasons people complain about FrontPage is the fact that the coding it generates is buggy and you end with problems such as this. Frontpage inserts a ton of extraneous code and elements that many other editors have a hard time with.

I had to redesign when I made the switch recently but if your learning HTML right now I'm pretty sure you'll be discontent with your old pre-HTML-knowing site anyway.

I removed the template instructions and some broken HTML from the page and it disaplyed everything nicely.

Remove the template comments and then review and make a new template.

I've been using text (not graphic) Navbars in Frontpage generated by the Navbar feature in Frontpage. Combined with a CSS HOVER it looks OK.

However I'm moving the site to Dreamweaver MX 2004 and I miss the navbar and site structure of Frontpage. What's the equivalent in Dreamweaver? I like how FP highlights the active selection in the Navbar and takes care of the Navbar updating.

There must be some equivalent in DW because I know that people managing sites in DW that have much more complex sites than mine.
    Thanks-

Try creating a Dynamic Web Template or creating a library item.

Are you using any PHP coding or anything like that?

When I use PHP in accessing databases to display data then I get the same problem.
