hi dp.... i have deiced to move to vps because of sudden spikes and downtime and inability of shared hosting specially if its like bluehost to handle the spikes.

so i asked people and came up with 2 options...either to go with linode or hostgator vps..searhed out the prices.linode seemed cheaper but people say its super hard to configure linode and i have no prior experience in seting or managing hosting..i just managed a shared hosting cpanel nothign more

so i thot about hostgator and talked with support staff and they said i would have to configure out unmanged vps ones i.e. level 1 and level 2 the initial ones and they wont help with this ...so my question is can a person having no priior experience will be able to manage this with the help of the tutorials ....i hope they have tuts

managed vps ois just too costly....40 dollars per months is way too much for hosting :mad:

    plz gimme ur valuable advice

best way is to learn linux basic commands first then messing around with a vps
there are many tutorials out there about managing vps, you can google for them

but at least you've got to have some basic knowledge on linux first

You could just get an unmanaged VPS with cPanel on it, and keep functioning as you were with cPanel previously. You would need to learn the root access of WHM and learn how to set it up, but there is tons of documentation and its fairly easy, plus there is an initial setup stage that configures it initially.

if you are not accustomed with managing server, I advice you to get cPanel no matter what.

But too bad, for both Linode and Hostgator, you should be ready to spend near 40 bucks/month to get cPanel. if your only choices are those 2, then try negotiating with their sales (maybe they can get a discount for you, I'm not sure).

My advice is look somewhere else, there is a plenty smaller provider who can get you better service for the money you spent. Good Luck!
