moving files between domains

    Hi,

I have two domains to work with: www.switchtomacdvd.com and www.switch.switchtomacdvd.com. They are both hosted by Hostgator. The second one is a subdomain which has twice as many files. But what I want to do is to transfer everything in that sub to the regular one and move everything in the regular one into the sub. So that when someone opens up switchtomacdvd.com, they will get what was previously switch.switchtomacdvd.com.

I can't seem to get it to work in my web editor (which has the ability to publish sites without using a third-party FTP client). And I'm not sure how to do it through the cPanel in Hostgator, if indeed that is the way to do it. I'm a total novice when it comes to things like directories and roots.

    Any clues? Thanks

The easiest way would be to use an ftp client such as filezilla and then download the entire site.
Your sub domain should be pointing to a directory in your root directory and would be downloaded when you download everything from your root directory to your computer.

You can find out what directory is used for the sub domain via your cpanel.
I would then delete everything in my root directory except for the directory that the sub domain is pointing to, after making sure I got everything downloaded of course.

You can then choose what to upload and where to upload it to.
Your site is not that large and it should not take a very long time to do this.

If something goes wrong you can always upload what you currently downloaded.
The reason I would delete most everything before I uploaded my files is to ensure that I do not have a sloppy file system with duplicates and unwanted items.

What editor are you using? Please do not say Frontpage :)

download them all and reupload. You are safe because you have a backup. You can change domain pointers to achieve this. but not recommended since you are not that web savvy.

In cpanel you can grab a whole folder and drag it into another one which in your case you would want to rename one of them or both so you don't overwrite the other like "A" and "B". This saves you all the downloading and uploading.

If you need more help, just holler...be glad to help!
