Moving blog to a new domain

What is the best way to do this?

The blog is part of an existing site that has been marketed. The site is going to stay but the blog portion will be moved to its own domain/site.

The site is new and the blog has less than 50 posts so far, but the fear is getting penalized by the search engines.

Any thoughts or experience with this?

If you re-direct traffic from xxx.com/blog/ to yyy.com (new domain), search engines may think this is a link farm. If you just import the old database into new domain and delete the blog portion from xxx.com, then you are losing traffic. Why not start the new domain with new content?

I'd just recommend redirecting it to the domain name, its just logical really.

That is pretty much what I was leaning towards, less risk that way.

Thanks for all the input everyone.
