Moving a Website from one URL to Another... Do I De-Index it First?

    Hi all,

I've got a six-month old website filled with my own unique content that I need to move to a new URL. The content will not change, only the URL will.

I don't want to bring up the new URL and have google think the whole site is nothing but duplicate content, so do I have to "de-index" the first site before making the move? If so, how do I go about doing that? Or should I take the first site down, wait a few weeks, and then bring up the new one?

Just use a Redirect permanent for your whole old url, so you will also keep your backlinks.
You can also delete your old website with the Google Webmastertools.

Can't really do a redirect because, for legal reasons, I have to let the first URL go. Luckily I didn't build many backlinks for this site (was working on other sites).
