Moving a high ranking domain to a new name

    Hi there

I have someone who has a site that has been well SEO'd (is that a verb? ) . But now, in their wisdom, they have decided that they want to move their site onto a new domain name.

Obviously the new url will have no SEO rankings, so my question is- is it possible to use some kind of redirect or something to give the new domain the rankings that the old domain has?

    any ideas?

    cheers

    chris

You need to use htaccess to 301 redirect all the old pages to their corresponding new page. If you keep the folder structure and filenames the same this will make it easier.

The end result you are looking for is that users and search engines who visit your old pages get sent to the exact same page but on the new domain.

as a rule of thumb please do not shut down the old domain...wait for days at least 2 days or more...
