Are they relay illegal? read this http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080523-linking-to-movies-leads-to-4-million-in-fines.html they go after the little sites, but they leave the big ones alone? Is it really true that they can't charge you or do anything to you if the site is hosted in Malaysia or Sweden?
wow amazing thanks for the post man i like this Even though ShowStash and Cinematube didn't host any of these files, both were found guilty of contributory copyright infringement, according to the judges' opinions, because they searched for, identified, collected, and indexed links to illegal copies of movies and TV shows. Aside from monetary damages, both sites are now prohibited from engaging in further activity that would infringe upon the studios' work. So now where does Youtube stand of these other small sites?
It's probably like the IRS. They will go after ANY small person because they know they will just give in and pay them, as opposed to fighting a large corporation.
but what i wanna know is, am i still gonna have problems if i host it Malaysia or Sweeden? Thanks, SP360
Sometimes, regarding server location, there are specific country rules etc. That's something, however, I'd strongly recommend reading thorougly about before investing in such a business. Movie sites are illegal, even ones that 'link' to other places such as YouTube etc. that host the movies. It doesn't matter that they don't support copyright infringement etc. in their disclaimer. It's still illegal. Anyhow, like I said, read up on country laws etc. before doing anything. I don't recommend doing anything like this period, but if you do, be smart.
it does not matter were ur server is located all this means is if your webhost will close your site down when you get take down notices which you will get server location has nothing to do with weither the mpaa will come after you or not sooner ppl realise that the better
Interesting thread.. I am planning to create a movie streaming site also that hosted on different servers like dailymotion, youku etc. But dont really know if this is legal even i dont host any of this movies. While other movie streaming sites are being sued and shutdown. can someone tell us why watch-movies.net is still up?
Movie streaming sites are definitely illegal...Copyright issues? the problem is that there are an abundance of them. And there are too many to catch.
