I am looking into setting up a movie site..I know running movies on your own site would e highly illegal, so therefore the movies are watched on other servers that are not mine. Are there any implecations for my site as long as there are no actual movies on my site?

It's more which country the site is hosted in, I do believe that they are changing laws in most countries about this tho.

In the U.S. providing links to watch copyrighted material makes you a contributory infringer -- just as liable as if you had the material on your site.

I do not see how it can be "just as liable" I am not the one pulling the triger...
If there were no movies on sites to begin with, then the links would be useless.

If they can not stop a sites hosting the actual movie content, then what makes
you think they can stop a site that just has links to the movies?

The difference between providing links to infringers and providing bullets to crooks is that there is no legal use for your link to download copyrighted material and there is a legal use for bullets.

There is a distinction between liability and enforcement. Just because others are breaking the law without getting caught does not mean you will not be caught.

Not all countries have laws against linking (contributory infringement) - so if you don't live in the US, host in a country without contributory infringement laws, don't run adsense and aren't worried about a DMCA filing to remove your site from google, yahoo, or Bing - then you might be ok - or it just might be a complete waste of time - time better spent off coming up with an original idea that doesn't try to profit off of someone else's intellectual property.
