Movie Hosting Wayyyy Offshore?

Hey, well i was just wondering if it is legal to host full length complete movies offshore somewhere, I've had people tell me it's illegal and people tell me it's legal. If it's legal offshore and illegal where I am can they come get me where I am?

Also if you do respond please tell me how yo know.

Also, what country would i do it in?

Another quick thing is users would be uploading the movies / tv shows not me.

I'm not sure exactly what all the copyright laws are everywhere, I just know to my knowledge that the Netherlands do not have copyright laws.

Illegal. Who is telling you otherwise? You are bound to the laws of your resident country. Are you an American citizen? Then you are subject to US law. Even if you are outside of the country when the crime is committed.

I'm not from the us im from Canada, and what if I'm not the one uploading the content? Then it's not me committing the crime and since it's offshore it wont get taken down.

Offshore hosting will prevent a take down via a DMCA - nothing will prevent you from being sued.

if you host the videos, you will have big problems.use external hosting (websites that host videos) it's a lot more safe in this way

I know i was thinking of making a Private video hosting site, and if users decide to upload movies etc its their fault for breaking the tos. And if i do get a complain i will remove it, but will just take a little bit longer than most places ;)

Gee, good idea. Just like RapidShare which received a $34 million fine for doing that.

I thought rapidshare just had a certain period of time to remove all copywrite infringing files.

It's illegal whether it's hosted "Wayyyy Offshore" or under your bed.
