I'm making a Asian Movie Database website almost similar to "Internet Movie Database (imdb.com)". I'm not planning on copying any materials from them or any content. I'm planning to make a similar replica that would hold a complete Db for Asian movies (with similar features like ranking, voting and msgboards) I wanted to know if this is right or wrong? will I be subject to legal action? Like is the idea of "EBay", "Search Engine" or "forum website" copyrighted?? I was even planning on adding IMDb in my thank you note for being there and for teaching us. Thank you.
Ideas, at least in the US, cannot be copyrighted or patented. If you used different logos, images, and non-confusing trademarks then there is nothing they could do.
