Hey guys, I just moved from blogspot to a custom domain. Before: name.blogspot.com Now: www.name.com I've set up 301 redirects for name.blogspot.com. HOWEVER, I have tons of high PR sites that link to me by name.blogspot.com. 1. Since link juice is reduced for 301 redirects, I assume I'll have to e-mail those sites and ask them to change the url to www.name.com? 2. Some of these sites link to me in their blogroll/resources section AND in single blogposts. Does it matter whether I ask them to change the url in their blogroll ONLY, or should I also ask them to change the url in one single blog post (I assume changing the url in more than one single post doesn't add any extra link juice)? Would GREATLY appreciate your input on this issue.
It used to be that 301 redirects passed link juice near-perfectly, but now Google has weakened inter-domain 301s and link juice is diluted / degraded to a significant degree, so your best bet is to have as many of your top links updated as possible. Matt Cutts himself advises this in this video. Once this is accomplished, it will further help to ping, tweet etc. the URLs of the linking pages and even to build some backlinks to them (even low-quality dofollow links can help here). I hope this helps!
