i moved my high traffic domain to a new server the other day with a new ip address and traffic seems to have slowed. is this normal? does google care about ip addresses ?

don't worry you'll get back soon but check what other sites are hosted on that shared ip address that might be important

If the new server that your site is being hosted on is in a different country this
will affect your traffic, a different ip address I'm not so sure.

Are you sure the DNS is updated all around the world? Could be that some users have the old DNS entry/IP address and that way they are not coming on to your new server/ipaddress

When you change IP addresses you usually need to leave the old site up for about 72 hours. There are a lot of routers around the internet that may have your site cached and haven't read the new DNS yet. If you haven't changed the URLs then your traffic will come back. It make take more time if the spiders couldn't find your site during the transition.

You will just have to be very lucky like I was that when changing name servers. It will only take 30 minutes to transition. It doesnt really matter what Ip address you have as long as your domain is still pointing to your website.

Yep, patience is key, if a week later you still don't have your traffic then it is time to start worrying.

You can only say if traffic has dropped if you have already checked Google in different hours of the day and week and notice rankings dropped. Usually domain registration is not like hosting servers which could cause traffic drops.
