Moved A 10 Year Old Domain To New Web Host - Should New SEO Be Applied?

    My site (in signature below) is over 10 years old and I had to rebuild it from a basic Frontpage2002 Windows site that had around 150 pages to a new WordPress site that's hosted on a Linux server by a new host and the new site has around 10,000 pages. I've accomplished all redirects, the sitemap was submitted to Google Webmaster Tools, and since the new sitemap was submitted, of the 13,864 URLs submitted, 13,164 have been indexed. With this in mind, should I continue with new SEO techniques? In essence, listing the site in directories, try for new backlinks and so on? I do have the Yoast plugin activated and did quite a bit with that however....my traffic is literally in the basement and wonder how to get back on track. The ironic twist to this, was my old site was losing traffic due to the Panda / Penguin debacle not to mention the fact that the new HTML5 hierarchy was affecting the old site - now after a year's effort or restripping, renaming image files (with SEO in mind- 4,000 total) and spending roughly 12 or 13 months meticulously laying the site out, now this. Any in-depth feedback, insights or feedback on what else could be done, please let me know!

    Carlo: I have a tag cloud on my index page and here is a link to one of them: http://danscartoons.com/tag/executive/ - instead of just using "executive" I wonder then, if using "executive cartoons" is better (this is what I offer). In your experience using Yoast, what is recommended? And Danyalsadd, I didn't realize my page rank was at 4. Let's say for instance, getting it more backlinks in directories....would you think directories are a good place to list in? Thanks for letting me know baout the page rank............

    @dinrock
    I think "executive cartoons" suits better your seo needs, remember you are talking about cartoons.

    However I check AdWords Planner for "executive cartoons" keyword and the result give a very very low volume of monthly research (only 10)... So, have you considered to use something other like "business cartoons"?
    The keyword "business cartoons" has 2.500 monthly research... which is definitely better than "executive cartoons"

    But I'm italian, and I don't know if "business cartoons" can be used as "executive cartoons"
    Please forgive my bad english :)

    already have that as a page Carlo: see this page, so wonder if tagging these additional images with the term "cartoons" will be OK as long as this isn't viewed as keyword stuffing

    I tried including a link to another page in my site for that term but DP won't allow me to include the link for some reason but +anyway, it has to do with business cartoons. If you got to "cartoon catalog" on top right of menu and in that drop down list, you should see it...

    Hey dinrock,

    Don't fret being 'in the basement' for the time being. Typically, both changing hosts and reorganizing the site backend (changing the CMS and/or theme) can have a negative effect of SERP ranking. You've hit a grandslam, so its completely natural that you're in the dog house. That being said, its typically only a temporary visit to lower pages. From what I've experienced, its usually 25-45 days to get back on track...

    That is, if you're doing everything else right. You're on Wordpress now using Yoast, which is great. This will give you a lot of control over the metas, enabling you to pin point the keywords you're going after. But it can also stab you in the foot. Use 2014 standards. Don't keyword stuff. Use synonyms. Aim for ranking the page for the entire topic, not just a single keyword. Onpage over-optimization is probably the easiest trap to fall into, but if you get it right, you'll be ranking for additional keywords that you weren't even considering.

    As far as off page link building goes, use 2014-standard links as well. The name of the game these days is authority (PA/DA/PR) and relevance. Get links from high authority sites in your niche. If you did your keyword research correctly and found low to medium difficult keywords to target, it should only take you a few links to get ranking.

    Hope this helps. Best of luck.

    Hi Diggity:
    See my images here: http://danscartoons.com/?s=abraham+lincoln that relate to the term "abraham lincoln" (this page also comes up if you type it into my built-in search function on my index page)....I am simply experimenting with the power of the plugin.....what do you think (see attached screenshot)? This is for just 3 specific images, I have roughly 4000 throughout the entire catalog. How would you do it?

    Got it Diggity....I won't touch anything further....other than just let the site propogate as is. It was re-launched last January and as of my most recent 'site stats' check in my wp dashboard, I had 543 views yesterday April 24 and so far today about 158. I think my next best bet is to find out how to increase the views, correct?
