Phil O'Donnell has died after collapsing on the field in Mothewell's game against Dundee United. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/motherwell/7164150.stm For Motherwell, this is not the first time they have had to face tragedy. Davie Cooper succumbed to brain haemorrhage while filming a training video a decade back. Miklos Feher in the BWINLiga and Marc Vivien Foe in the Premiership are also examples of players who have died after collapsing on the field. Antonio Puerta is a more recent example. The exact cause of O' Donnell's death is still unknown. May his soul rest in peace
It's shocking when young, fit people die. I was at a high school cross country race this past fall and saw the medics working on a 14 year old girl who did not make it. She had played for a soccer/football club for many years and was doing well in running. It's a part of life, our next heartbeat is not guaranteed. Very sad.
Thats a shame... I live in Dundee most of the year (at uni there), I should have probably heard of this by now...
