Hi, I'm building a web directory and would like to get a feel for what people consider are "nice looking" and "easy to use" web directories. If you don't mind sharing, please post the directories you think either look nice or are easy to use (including what you like about them). Thanks Paul
Hi mm10, I've looked into this subject before (ugly sites making more money) and I think its a bit more complicated than this. I personally think that ugly websites don't make money because they are ugly as such - there are plenty of ugly sites out there that have never made money. I think its rather that the ugly sites (that make money) are rich in useful content - and obviously make more money than pretty sites that have no decent content. I know of one such ("ugly") site in the UK cruise industry - looks awful and hasn't changed its appearance for years. Every designer I've shown it to hates it and can't believe the company does so well. Nonetheless show it to someone interested in cruises and many of them love it - it has plenty of informative hand written descriptions on cruises (no database to use = free to write whatever content they want). However (speaking for experience) a site with both great content and a good design will do better in my opinion than the one with only great content (assuming marketing efforts are similiar).
Authority Directory, SevenSeek, Wow have nice design layouts...I like some others too but aint coming to mind at the moment...oh mine of course!
What I hate about some directories is when you have to registair before submitting your website. Try and make the process of submitting as clean and quick as possible.
