Most Secure Way To Sell Domains?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by Claymation, Sep 23, 2009.

I have used PayPal in the past to sell domains that were less than $xxx, but I need to sell a higher profile site ($xxxx), and have no intention of allowing PayPal (due to the chargeback issue).

Have researched for quite some time and have found people having major problems with Moneybooker, and escrow.com not guaranteeing against chargebacks.

So, how the heck does an honest businessman sell a domain these days?
    Brokers, or....?

Like venetsian said, face to face deal, hahah.
someone/companies deal with sedo for $Xm on popular domain auction, what are you worrying about?

Other then a face to face deal. You can just have them send payment first before pushing the domain. I know this sounds like common sense, but you also should keep the receipt from your domain registrar. I know namecheap emails you a receipt when you push a domain. This should be the most secure way to protect yourself from chargebacks, and money disputes.

Escrow.com. Keeps both buyer and seller honest.
I wouldn't use Pay Pal for a $xxxx deal either, unless it was broken up into installments. Still, an online Escrow transaction is the way to go for bigger sums of money.

I did some research recently about the very same thing, and Moniker Escrow seems to be the safest. They hold control of the domain for sometime so that if the buyer chargesback, they will be able to give you the domain back to you. But they let the buyer change nameservers, so the buyer is able to use the domain right away. You receive payment faster, buyer gets domain faster, everyone is safe, it works :)

I would use escrow.com or sedo.com, if you want to do it securely.

You cant dispute a paypal masspayment.. Once it is made it cant be reversed.. And since you can only do a masspayment from paypal balance there is no chance of credit card chargebacks either.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.
I'm looking into Sedo for one such sale, but have yet to make up my mind.

One buddy suggested I set up a separate bank account, link it through PayPal and wait until it clears. When it does....empty the bank account, push the domain, close the account and remove that one from my PayPal account.
What good would a chargeback do if there is no longer an option to get burned by PayPal returning funds- there are none to return.

    Sound plausible?

Never heard of paypal masspayment. I'll look into it.

Personally, I would stick to Escrow.com as I've never had issues with them in the past. Or you could try Moniker's Escrow service as well.

sedo payouts limits are very high...
only on option payment for international sellers..that is wire transfer
Paypal is not available in my country and some others as well..also for wire transfer one need to have EUR currency account..After paying highe charges for foreign account and wire transfer charged. what I will save????
I asked to them if they pay through western union but they dont..

DO you ppl know any other auction site which pay through western union?????????

Although I am sure that you could offer your services for a low charge Chandan.. I have to disagree.. Why spend money on escrow if you can keep it all yourself?
