Most recommended PHP forum software

    I'm looking to start a forum based site for software development and firearms. What is the best PHP forum software out there, either free or open source?

    I used vBulletin a while ago (maybe 6-7 years) and it was alright, is the new publishing platform any good? What about free software like phpBB and SMF?

    You might also want to consider myBB. It is what I use these days.
