Most important source of traffic?

What do you think is the most important source of traffic, and which should you give more effort in improving? I'm looking at my traffic stats, and the breakdown is as follows:

    Direct Address/Bookmarks 53.7 %
Links from Search Engine 12.9 %
Links from External Sites 33.2 %

Which is the most reliable source of traffic out of these three? Should I concentrate more on search engine optimization, since this is more important and I've got a low percentage of it?

Search engine probally brings most traffic (to most sites) however is probally the most un-reliable source (since they update whenever they want)

Direct Access/Bookmarks are most reliable in my book.

Don't rely on google unless you hate yourself and enjoy ulcers. Hit all the bases, PPC, even offline venues.

Direct links from people means they're probably revisiting because they liked some content or whatnot on your site.

The bottomline is: what does adsense consider the most out of those three?

Interesting point. I'm curious to know what the answer to that question is too.

I think hits from search engines puts you into the 'smart pricing'

Hits from other sites would probably be the most valuable, bookmarked hits would mean their probably familiar with your ad placement and are likely blocking them out.

No I get most of my traffic from search engines as well, but the adsense smart pricing is supposed to target that and reduce income on search engine clicks.

When asked whats most valuable, them I assumed the poster was referring to $$

In a way, yes, since steady traffic = steady flow of income.

And thanks about that tip regarding smart pricing on search engine results.

even with the adsense proportion wise the quality of traffic in terms of actual customers is significantly lower, I am sort of diappointed with the ppc. I guess it depends on the nature of the business at the moment I am promoting services http://www.canadaone.org

Holy Hannah - that's one crowded page, worker! Do you think that most of those pages have different information? That sure is a lot of information to digest.
