I have done a small research. So I have registered domain couple of months ago. That domain name consists of frequent used keywords. I didn’t do much things in this site. But after few days I saw my site is coming to the 2 nd position when I search “seo expert company†in google. Third position in MSN. First position site has PR7 . There are PR5,PR4 sites appear after my site. So my argument is Domain name plays major part of SEO. PR ,inbound links and other SEO factors has very less impact. There is a site sells their well popular SEO book. What they say was when we type “seo book†in any search engine , their site comes as the first result. According to my research, that is not because of SEO skills, that is totally the Domain name matches the typed keyword .
That has to do with competition. No one really searches for that term so no one targets it. Very easy to achieve. But to answer the question domain name does have some to do with the rankings.
Domain name has to do with ranking though not much. Having said that, MSN seems to love domain name and ranks them higher in their result.
yes aaron, you are correct , But my point is , if I register a domain with 2 keywords like "seo book" , then obviously when I search seo book , that domain will come as the first result.... That is nothing to do with SEO secrets. But they advertise like that...
Hello, That's true domain Name Play role in seo..... If you have good domain name it will help in ranking....
yeah but who wins: seobook.com seo-book.com seobook.biz seo-book.us seobook.net seobook.org you get the idea- domain name is a factor but just one of many.
Na you can rank number one for a keyword that a domain exsists for that keyword ranking number 1. Just depends on if you put more work into the site as the person whos ranking number 1 already.
agree.domain is just one from many factors to go through. But if just had a good domain but with crap content,it doesn't work. You can rank high with domain at MSN search but Mr. G prefer your content. It's no point you can rank fast or not, but how long you can establish and stay.I'm prefer to be slowly and build up rather than just be "discovered".
still have something to do with seo. and how will google discover your site without building some links. below is just my own opinion. i think google was after the brand. and it assumes that your domain name was your brand name. so it will give you a fresh site bonus for a while. That will be your window to build your backlinks to prove it was really your brand name.
I agree with aaron_nimocks, you are most likely seeing these results b/c there isn't any competition for it. Domain name counts, but it isn't everything. IMHO, Quality one way inbound links is one of the most important SEO factors, and they count more than the domain name.
The more competitive the search query the more important the links. I realize the following link is dated, from 2003, but it is worthwhile to study because, imo, it provides essential insight into how Google thinks: http://www.redalkemi.com/articles/analysis-of-hilltop-algorithm.php Since Google introduced Hilltop it has not backed-off from trusting off-site ranking factors over on-site ranking factors. In fact, today's Google is much more proficient at identifying, classifying and valuing individual link types and link values. At times it may appear that on-site factors are making a comeback, and perhaps in some cases they are, but for the most part I think that this perception is actually a result of Google advancing in their ability to identify and devalue specific classifications of links. Each time I see a whole group of web sites fall in the rankings I say to myself, "Looks like they bagged another link species." Bottom line: A lackluster or unnatural external inbound link profile can be devastating. Now, that being said there are still lots of keyword markets where on-site optimization can make a major difference.
keywords in domain name really helps when it comes to ranking but other elements still play important role in SERP. Maybe what happen to you is just a coincidence.
Having keywords in the URL will help ranking for those term Try not to put more than 2 or 3 dashes in the domain name. Also, never put more than one dash in a row. SEO factor would be a very very poor choice. Not only with this likely do poorly in the search engines (there are older methods of spamming that involve this naming convention, and the search engines place an eye on it), but it’s very out of the ordinary and expecting the public to remember and type it is asking a bit much. http://seo-factor.com/2007/04/20/keywords-in-your-domain-name
I think that it is far more important to brand your domain. People are more likely to click on www.grass.com than www.a-site-about-grass-trees-gardens-gardening-and-all-other-gardening-related-keywords.com. Think about your users and creating a brand.
its not just about domain name. its also about your content. when you have an interesting content youll get traffic. http://thelongestlistofthelongeststuffatthelongestdomainnameatlonglast.com/
