I am still trying to figure out what is the most important factor is bubbling up to the 1st page in google search results when your keywords are used.

    Is it:

    1. Backlinks
    2. Page Ranking
    3. # of Pages in website

    All the above?

    I think for G it's:

    1. age
    2. anchor text backlinks

Is age really that important? So if everything was the same apart from the fact that my site is say 3 years older than it is now, I could expect significantly better results than the ~100's i'm getting now? (site is about 14months at the moment).

What about on page SEO? Is that important with big G?

One million pages in a website that has a multitude of BLs with good PR does not make an SERP exsist so much as quality content, more content and when you're done with that, throw in so more content. The content should be well optimized and have anchor text links pointing to it and a good internal linking structure throughout the site IMO.

From the list you provided - none of these take a back seat to content, content and some more content IMO.

    Oh, did I mention content?

Its a mixture of everything but if I had to pick the MOST important part I would say <title>

But this also depends on the keyword too.

The most important thing about ranking the keyword "asjhdsjfhdsfsd" is just to have it in your content and you will win! :)

Well, backlinks and # of pages in a website make the pagerank bigger. So its:

    backlinks + #pages => pagerank

    or else: pagerank = f(backlinks, #pages)

So your goal is pagerank. However it's not by having a good pagerank you score well for keywords. You should look at the optimisation for the keywords (title tag etc.)

there is no reason for pagerank to be a goal unless you want to charge for advertising, increase your weight in the COOP or give yourself more of a chance in link exchanges

Seems that age of the site has a lot of weight. After that, inbound links and title tag have some weight.

Last year when the "Google Patent" filing was being analyzed, there was an indication that not only the site age, but the commitment would be a consideration, meaning it's expiration; a site that's been online is great, but also one showing a commitment to staying there (longer expiration) seemed to be important. Domain registrars don't mind of course, as many have returned to renew their domains for longer periods of time.

Even your site is perfect seo optimize... You cannot get a fine rank without INBOUND LINKS.

If you have huge amount of quality Inbound links.. even the site is not SEO optimize .. somehow you can still get a fine rank.

With "age", does google look for when the domain was registered, or when the first non-domain registrar site appeared at the domain, or when the current site became active in its current form?
