I recommended Avira AntiVir Premium or if you want free try the Personal version. Currently I'm using Premium version and its better than AVG.

Almost all AVs dramatically slow down the system, no matter how powerful PC it is!
i hate AV software for this one reason.

Hey so-big-guru Project Mobius, I kindly asked if possible to post the link...Honestly, we don't need your sarcasm and sick rudeness, ok? If you post your cheap anwsers just to raise your post-count you better, don't...who knows you exist! Lazy people always show lack of etiquette!

MayurGondaliya says, Norton has great number of detected viruses and I'd agree with his/her opinion that the computer performance goes enormously slow even for even well configurated PC. As for Kaspersky I use to use that software couple years ago and I've notice their good malware detection but I do think that they also require a lot from whole computer processes, like RAM and CPU(since their Threat Detector eat a lot in order to be efficient). I don't know why but I still have sympathy to Nod32. I know for sure that Nod32 have the fastest anti-virus reaction, but cannot confirm yet about the performance we all talk now.

If you need to keep windows OS, I would say AVG, because is light, good and has a free version.
Else I would say removing windows and installing Linux or Mac OS X.
