    Hey Everyone,

What do you find are the most effective methods to get your site mentioned in blogs?

Do you just e-mail the authors with a description of your site? Or do you leave comments on their blog first?

Obviously you need to have site/service that the author of the blog believes will interest his/her readers or you have no chance. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Brian

I would post relevant comments to the blogs first.
If you send an e-mail, keep your first one bright and brief (i.e. e-mail an introduction and tell the blogger why you are interested in him/her and/or drawn to his/her writing/site/etc...).

One of my "blogging buddies" sent me an e-mail saying she enjoyed my blog and then she'd post comments. Her personality started to interact with my blog and I reciprocated and from that point on I would look forward to her comments. If you post an interesting comment to the blogger's blog, the blogger will probably pay more attention to your e-mail.

Whether you send an e-mail or post a blog comment, give it a "real touch."
Any e-mail I receive that looks like a form letter gets deleted immediately.
Sometimes you have to "give" something before you get something in return--even if what you are "giving" is a smile :)

of course, you cold pay the blogger to write about your site - it is a sure-fire way to get a mention within a blog! - Then by commenting on the bloggers article, you would get the interaction!

Try emailing popular bloggers and offering a content exchange. You each write a post on each other's blogs, along with a link back. You can make it a regular weekly feature, and if your blog gets popular enough, people will come to you wanting to be featured!

Thanks for the responses everyone. Posting relevant comments to the blogs first and offering a content exchange sound like excellent ideas to me.

    Thanks again for your help.

I think it will depends whether the blog is commercial or not.
If a blog is commercial, the owner may want something in exchange.
If its just a famous personal blog, the personal touch mentioned in the above few posts should be effective.
