most effective way to generate .edu links?

    I run a pest control website with insect information. I am looking for the most effective way to build .edu backlinks. I have emailed many professors that have websites relating to pest control and i have not heard back from a single person. So i'm wondering what everyones method is for obtaining .edu, .gov and even .mil back links.
