Most effective and cost-efficient press release strategy?

    Hey all. We've been sending out press releases for a bit and I'm trying to hone in on the most effective and cost-efficient means of doing this. Certainly you can always pay $300+ for the widescale distribution through PR Newswire and others but if you're doing a press release frequently like we are that can really add up. Here's what we've been doing to date:

    Webwire = $9.95 for "WebPost" option
    www.free-press-release.com = $0.60 for "Premier" option
    PR Web = $30 contribution amount
    www.24-7PressRelease.com = $10 contribution amount
    PRLeap = free option

    So it basically costs us $50 per press release and we've found that we get traffic from all of these sources. One thing we're thinking about is bumping up our PR Web contribution to $80 so that we can take advantage of the RSS functionality.

    How does this all sound for a company trying to get the word out on a limited budget?
