Hi guys. I have a question... I am sort of new in the affiliate world, and have tons of questions, but lets start with this one I always "hated" those long landing pages - the ones where you scroll a mile to the bottom of the page - and the ones with the yellow highlights, and the (fake) testimonials I am (almost) sure you know what I mean - I feel like most affiliates are using them ... I guess it is partly because they are the easiest to make (basic html and some php and voila you have affiliate page).. The question is - are they effective? This sort of answers itself ... they wouldn't use them if they weren't effective... I guess ... Are affiliates making those pages because they are easiest to make, or because they sell good? I mean... most of the time .. the design is awful, and the text... well.. it's marketing text ... it is not really some top secret info that would make you buy the product that is selling. I am writing this because I just saw a topic where Dp member mentioned he is used to long (information-rich) pages. I don't think they are information rich - they are text rich, but information... no... no real information there ... So, the question - what are you thoughts about this view? Do you think "text" counts? Do you think design is more important? Do you sell good with mile long pages? What do you think? Thanks in advance! Cheers! Anna
I too hate those pages...full of text, no information and bottomless...I often wonder how do people manage to make many sales with them. I personally prefer the simple pages, with as little text as possible, but full of information.
Everyone hates the long sales pages full of highlights, but the reason they are still used is because they work Do what works, not what you think might work because you like it.
Are you speaking from experience ? And I totally agree with that. I so don't want to be subjective and do/sell on pages that I like...
Yeh, they are used because they work - check the top 10, 20 clickbank vendors and they all pretty much use them, in fact this guy has already done that for you: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1248531 I too personally think theyre awful, but they do work - we are all different - some people like videos, some people like pictures, some people like stories, testimonials, facts, figures, charts - we all just scan the page looking for the info we need - often it is just rewritten into different formats to catch all different types of people. I can also say I once bought a $1,500 product from a long copy sales page, you bet I bookmarked the page and kept coming back every few days and reading more, re-reading etc... it worked on me
^^ it works because the person who is reading is already interested in the product. They just need lots of convincing to purchase.
It doesn't matter how long it is -- it has to create a story for them to buy. You know, when you go to a job interview, you create a 3-5 min. selling point. The same with a sales page, if it takes you 3 to 5 mins to read, that's how long the page should be. You want to target your audience with the product/service they need, and relate to them so they can buy.
