Most Common Affiliate Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

ffiliate marketing has now become big business and as it gives everybody, big and small the opportunity to make money, so more and more people are jumping on board, and getting a piece of the action.

But there is a danger here. Because it is so easy to get started, many people just jump straight in to the action only to discover further down the line that they have made some costly errors. If you are aware of these potential problems to begin with so much the better.

The first mistake people make is to choose the wrong affiliate program.

Many people want to earn from affiliate marketing as fast as possible. In their rush to be part of one, they tend to choose a bandwagon product. This is the kind of products that the program thinks is hot. They choose the product that is in demand without actually considering if the product appeals to them. This is not a very wise move obviously.

So avoid the tendency to jump on the popularity bandwagon, and instead ask yourself what am I really interested in, and then chose a product based on that criteria.

You are much more likely to succeed if you choose to work with a product that you feel passionate about.

Now to mistake number 2. And that is joining too many affiliate programs.

Since affiliate programs are very easy to join, you might be tempted to join multiples of affiliate programs to try and maximize the earnings you will be getting. Besides you may think that there is nothing wrong and nothing to lose by being part of many affiliate programs.

But this is a mistake, as it will stop you from being able to focus in on any one particular program, and in the early days you do need to focus.

The result? The maximum potential of your affiliate program is not realized and the income generated will not exactly be as huge as you were thinking initially it would. The best way to get excellent result is by joining just one program that pays a 40% commission at least. Then give it your best effort by promoting your products enthusiastically. As soon as you see that it is already making a reasonable profit, then maybe you can now join another affiliate program.

The technique is to do it slowly but surely. There is really no need to rush into things, especially with affiliate marketing. With the way things are going, the future is looking real bright and it seems affiliate marketing will be staying for a long time too.

Mistake number 3: This mistake is where people never buy the product or service that they are selling.

As an affiliate, you main purpose is to effectively and convincingly promote a product or service and to find customers. For you to achieve this purpose, you must be able to relay to the customers that certain product and service. It is therefore difficult for you to do this when you yourself have not tried these things out. Thus, you will fail to promote and recommend them convincingly. You will also fail to create a desire in your customers to avail any of what you are offering.

So please do make sure that you have bought the product, and tried it out yourself, before you ever think about recommending it to others.

Many affiliate marketers makes these mistakes and are paying dearly for their actions. Do not fall into the same situation they have been in, try to do everything to avoid making the same mistakes.

Time is the key. Take the time to analyze your marketing strategy and check if you are in the right track. If done properly, you will be able to maximize your affiliate marketing program and earn higher profits.

    I agree and disagree.
Here is why, I am with 5 networks, have tons of merchants, some took a while to approve. And would never buy half the stuff I sell well over half for example I sell a pump for men.....u know. Have sold now 12 in the last 2 days. Reason I would never buy that, i don't have the necessary tools. How did i get the content for my site. Content writers and a bit of research. You don't have to and it is not necessary to maximize profits to buy what u sell.

Here's one lesson I just learned...if you ever review a product, do it AFTER you've been accepted into the program. I spent a lot of time putting together a review for freecreditreport.com, then went to join the program on CJ and was automatically rejected the instant I hit the Join button...boy was I pissed off....

hopefully the Adsense ads will pay off....I guess

A couple of years ago I had a good experience using priceline so I thought I would create a mini site and promote them. I had the site setup and my two anchor articles up with a review. I applied to Priceline and was turned down.

Check to see if freecreditreport.com is on any of the other networks besides CJ. If they are apply through those networks and maybe you can get accepted.
