Most annoying things about the marketing/snake-oil industry

Those really annoying "Are you sure you want to leave?" pop-ups

Do you ever actually say "No," and then go sign up for whatever they are offering? Every time I ever run into one of these things I want to puke, and I can't remember any of these pages I ever visited twice, or stayed signed up for their mailing list for any significant period of time.

Even if there were numbers to back up these things working, I don't think that I would ever use one because it means that every single person that doesn't buy my product on visit 1 would be severely inconvenienced to the point of never coming back. Definitely not worth any short term benefit considering the long term damage to your traffic and reputation.

Saying something has a value of $199, when even $9 would be stretching it

Saying something is worth so much and then throwing it in for free sets of significant doubts in my mind that the item is worth as much as you say it is. It is even more insulting if I buy your product and then discover that the item is not worth as much as you have said, and realize you lied to me.

Dropping the name of some nobody Internet marketer you have studied with who I have never heard of.

If you are as great and innovative as your sales letter is making you out to be, how come you have to use someone else's credibility to sell your own product?

The "From the Desk of" intro and auto-updated time clock

Only someone with zero credibility would write such a thing to make himself sound more important.

YouTube douche bags telling you how you can be rich, yet their video has less than 50 views

At least be smart enough to inflate your views if you are telling people how rich you are going to make them and make yourself credible. Go the extra effort to clean your room, too.

    Middle-aged men YouTube marketers

Hire a chick to record your videos. You look pathetic sitting their in your house talking to your computer. Nobody wants to buy your "work at home product" that will teach them how to "work at home."

People who put out garbage products or con people, and harm their willingness to buy digital products in the future

Every single product I have ever produced has been gold, and anyone who purchased would tell you the same thing. I have had exactly one return in my life, and it was because the person didn't read my sales letter, supposedly, and even then it was outside the time period, and I still refunded!

    Louis Allport

Every time I come across a product that you have produced, I throw up a bit. I despise the entire work at home, 6 figure income people, but I especially hate you.

I remember when I was a kid, my little brother answered one of those ads "Make Money stuffing Envelopes! Send $1 and a SASE for Info!"

He got it, and of course the deal was "Run ads like the one you answered, then when you get the $1, send them a copy of this letter in the SASE provided!"

He was very disappointed, and like 8 years old.

I see a lot of 'offers' that are basically that same idea. Just dressed up as 'internet marketing!'

Not everything is a scam, but there's lots of cheese...

Yeah I hate these things too. They try to trick you into clicking the wrong button so you stay on their site. I personally can't see them working but a lot of people use them so you never know.

Excellent post, it's wonderful to see someone who is willing to be a honest marketer and sales person.

The actions of these "shady" marketers will not only dilute the web, but make people very SKEPTICAL.

In fact I can see a trend in the future of people who resist buying from MOST SITES, in order to feel SMART, and SAVVY considering the SCAMS that are online.

Some of the things I hear people willing to do on here is amazingly sad and not GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICES.

My motto and CONTINUOUS MOTTO is "If you have to HIDE and you cannot tell a customer you stand behind a product, but must LURE THEM TO IT" in CONNIVING WAYS, you are SHADY and don't take Internet Marketing seriously.

I do direct sales, I cannot HIDE, what major companies HIDE, they are PROUD of their name.

I'm sick of those who AREN'T committed but just want to make the money involved.

These techniques do not last, so these people come up with different schemes to get back to that point, or month or two where they DID make a lot of money.

It's a CYCLE and we ALL lose in the end.

Just like with any company BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS which leads to a BRAND NAME is what gives you LONGEVITY. And that means in an HONEST way.

Excellent post, I will begin to see who I can and should listen to on here.;)
