NP, we'll accept that the majority of the IDs (real and otherwise) that voted from outside the US had this preference about something they cant vote on.

Then we'll collectively pretend it means something..

Go ahead and make more excuses. Its a fact that you people will reject democracy if it doesn't favour your side of the fence.

Funny for you to say that when you have Israelis "voting" on your side of the fence. Regardless this is an internet forum, so anyone who is registered on DP is "eligible" for a vote. Not that it matters anyway, but it gives me the giggles to see how Muslims are more democratic than the so-called "democratic" West.

Obviously you dont understand the simple concept of a constituency. Simple... Constituents can vote. Those outside cannot. I dont control who votes in a poll you made, and do find it a tad humorous that you apparently think it means anything.

Americans wouldnt put a monument to Hirorhito in Pearl Harbor or a statue of Tim McVey in Oklahoma City. If that displeases the muslims of Malaysia or any other country... we can live with it.

Some Muslims are Democratic but i am pretty sure that you will have different opinions if you were about to be stoned to death under the sharia law.

I really think that the mosque will get built. Nineteen good Muslims died on those aircraft and the Saudi's are making sure their sacrifices are not forgotten.

In a way, this is a good thing. I don't think that the Americans should be allowed to so easily forget 9/11 either. Texans remember the Alamo more than New Yorkers remember 9/11. I think a humongous shrine to the people who murdered three thousand Americans is a nearly perfect reminder.

Why is this even up for debate? I can guarantee you that a poll around eligible voters in the U.S. would bring around 90+ percent of people saying "no".

    Isn't it "We The People"?

Unless you've spent time in NYC it's hard for normal Americans to appreciate just how very different they are... The fact that this was approved by the planning board is evidence enough of the differences. While I agree with you Will.Spencer that New Yorkers should be forced to remember what happened in their city and that this building might keep the wound alive and the memory fresh, but it is simply going too far.

The only reason for muslims to want a mosque in this location is to celebrate the damage they did to us. There are plenty of other places and other mosques for muslims to worship, there is no need to place one here, except to rub it in our faces and to mark America as conquered territory.

Zoning laws in the US from one state to another are affected by precedents and court decisions across the various states. I attended classes about zoning law at the North Central Tx Council of Governments when I was a zoning commissioner in one city... and it is not always easy to turn down a zoning request for churches or schools... and unlike a few countries that come to mind our laws do not differentiate between churches based on which religion they practice. We leave that sorta massive institutional discrimination to others.

If a mosque gets built in that location it wont be because New Yorkers decided to let bygones be bygones... it'd be because the zoning commission and city council couldnt buck some legal requirement. That in itself shows the difference between our country and the ones that pass laws giving broad special preference to their favorite religion.

    Bullshit.

Thats equivalent to Israel bombing the crap out of Mecca right in the middle of Haj and then building a Synagogue over the crater with an Israeli flag to make people aware/understand that Jews never ever supported it.
