I see and agree with the logic behind this move. Why not be accepting of other people? I hope that they will do something like this it would be a great gesture to the Muslim world. We here in the US need to learn to extend more olive branches its not all about showing off our bad ass military (although that is awesome too.)

I have no problems with Mosques being build anywhere in USA. But i seriously doubt that the reason behind building a mosque near ground zero is for the people to understand that Islam never sports terrorism.
I don't now the details as who is funding the building of the mosque there but there are plenty of Islamic extremists group in America. This dirt enjoy the freedom of speech here and publicly burn the American flag and when they give interviews to the media they say crazy shit like this : Allah commands us in Quran to terrorize non believers and infidels.

So if anyone from this dirt bags is involved of building a mosque there the reasons behind it are clear.

Your cements show that you are completely clueless when it comes to Islam in America. Muslims have much more rights here compare that with the Muslim countries. They are plenty of mosques already here and no Muslim gets beheaded or stoned to death for committing religious crimes.

I wanted to add an interesting comment I found by Zuhdi Jasser, he is president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy. He's also raised concerns that funding could be coming "with strings from foreign Islamists', but I guess this was my favorite part of the article...

Great find Rebecca . I am glad that the vast majority of Muslims in America think and act like Zuhdi Jasser.

LOL. I have no idea what the "vast majority of Muslims in America think and act like" but I'm sure they're not carbon copies of Zuhdi Jasser. But, I really appreciated this comment "...if we help build anything at the WTC site itself, it should be timeless memorials to all those who lost their lives on 9/11 -- memorials blind to faith, race, creed or national origin."

Here in Michigan there is a huge Muslim population and i have a few Muslim friends and many more Muslim acquaintances. I have yet to meet a extremist Muslim in USA and my comments were based on my observations. But you do see plenty of the extremists ones in the news and for sure they exist.

I don't know any Muslims in real life, just mainly in the virtual world of DP. :)

From what I've gathered on DP, there are quite a few Muslims that support blasphemy laws, sharia law, and that dream of Islam taking over the entire world. I would say there are a lot of extremists here, that's why I have to import quotes from liberal non-DP Muslims that I find elsewhere. LOL, it makes me feel better.

I find that it is kinda of insensitive. I saw countries blocking facebook because of Draw the Prophet calls. Isn't building a mosque near Ground Zero not considering the feelings for the relatives of the thousands that died in 9/11?

I guess you'd have to define "near" in the words "near ground zero". Building a mosque at ground zero would be like building a monument celebrating the Emporer of Japan in the middle of Pearl harbor. Building a mosque "near", as in within a block or two of ground zero, I'm hard pressed to take issue with. Given our current state of war, I would give careful scrutiny and consideration to what type of Islam would be taught at this mosque, where the funding comes from, and who the clerics would be. If the place turns out to be a den of America bashing, Israel hating, 9-11 truthers and terrorist recruiters, the city planners might just see something not seen in this country for quite some time. A lynch mob of angry Americans with nooses and a bunch of torches.

Jesus. I hadn't read up on the circumstance around this mosque. I frankly don't give a shit if Muslims want to build mosques in NYC, even if it is near ground zero. The city planning office probably makes most of those decisions based on what is best for city growth (and who is lining their pockets). NYC is also fairly densly built out, so the mosque or any other structure could be considered "near" ground zero if it is in NYC. The idea of the construction of this mosque having ANYTHING to do with 9-11, on the other hand, is indeed highly offensive. Looks like a lynch mob might be in order.

America is starting the long journey that Europe has undertaken, where the Islamization is already irreversible. I hope that America will wake up soon.
