More websites on a same server linking to each other

Ok, I do now that it`s bad when sites link to each other if they are on a same server.
My question is this: Is it different if I own a dedicated server that allows 4 different IPs?
Would google penalize me if I should send links back and forth from websites on a same server but with different Ips?

Google looks at the sub net address (xxx.yyy.ZZZ.---) and this is called SubNet Linking. Any link will become worthless. If done, heavely, then all sites on the hosted server will be affected.

Now we tried three way links, four way links, and any other concept. None worked.

If you use a "common link page" for all sites, then it is called "link farm" and all site will be harmed.

Note, we have been there and done that. No matter what you think of on a single server, it won't work.

Now multiple locations (LA - NY)...

However there is absolutely no risk in a legitimate link to each of your sites from the other if on the same server. Why would there be, many people house multiple sites on one server, and why shouldn't they allow members to travel between their sites?

I would like to see anything from a search engine that says they will penalise legitimate links between different sites on the same server. It may not get you any SEO benefit, but it will not get you a penalty.

They won't penalize you in this situation. But the link will only be added very little value. I would rather spend my time getting link from directories ect.

Thanx for your replies. I`m not into link farming? I`m running a forum and and a news site that are in the same niche. I guess the best way is to move one site to another server.

Why would Google look at a subnet address? Do you have and articles about this? Subnets can have hundreds of ip with the same subnet. The whole subnet address is for limitations of networking of IP addresses. Most server use only a few ip's to host hundreds of sites. Its up to the host header and DNS to resolve to the right site. Iterlinking on the smae ip cant have any negative iplications unless you have a bad neighbor on the same IP. Even then in a hosting situation I can see how this could effect rankings or pagerank. Penilizing hundreds of site for for one bad site.
