Across the board Americans are unhappy with the policies and practices of the upper reaches of the Bush administration. It is very widespread. It reaches across all types of people with all types of experiences. Now 2 of the people that were there at the beginning, pushing for the US to attack Iraq have had it with the administration. Kenneth Adelman and Richard Perle are two of the Neo-Conservatives that worked within the upper echelons of the Pentagon and directly interacted with Dick Cheney. They are regulary cited as two of the planners and persuaders behind the original plan to attack Iraq. In a recent interview both have had it with the administration; But they aren't the only ones. The Publisher of the Military Times is coming out with an editorial in the Army Times, Air Force Times, Marine Corps Times and Navy Times saying that Rumsfeld must go. These newspapers are widely read on military bases throughout the world. They go to everyone from senior officers to enlisted soldiers.. They released information on the upcoming editorial to other news sources this weekend. Disgust with the direction and leadership of the administration is very widespread.
Isn't that old news? Why harp on it? Your an American and yet all you are doing is feeding the enemy hatred. I don't like Bush but I absolutely refuse as an American to constantly bash the administration into the ground in full view of rest of the world!!! Do you have anything positive to add? Or will you just whine and cry for the next two years? For example: The American forces have not lost a single battle in Iraq. Is that so hard?
TWalker: There is nothing old about this latest news. It is fresh. Its an indictment by two senior guys who were pushing for a war against Iraq long before it started and were there at the beginning at the highest reaches of the Pentagon. The American system is open. That is an essential part of our system that makes us stronger than tyrannies that control the news. We have a two hundred plus years of practising it. Back in the Civil War Northerners rebelled against Lincoln and the South could become aware of all that news. That is the way we operate. Bush had a united America after the 9 11 attacks. He had the backing of most of the world after the 9 11 attacks. With the war in Iraq he has slowly but surely lost that type of backing. As time goes on he loses more and more of that suport. That is his fault and his responsability. Frankly I think he is lying to his most ardent supporters. He keeps saying that we are there to win and finish the job. Half a dozen retired generals have said that Rumsfeld (and by proxy Bush) have limited the forces into Iraq. The first active general to say this was summarily demoted and moved into early retirement. It doesn't look like we are "winning" or moving to winning with limited forces on the ground. As McCain said, the current situation looks like Whack-a-Mole. Instead of having the troops on the ground to control the situation we are moving troops around from one region to the next to try and quell a growing civil war type of situation. Their are comments about increasing both the reserve and national guard involvement in Iraq. Many in the military are afraid this is putting undue pressure on the ground fighting forces. Its not the people or the debaters who are making it easier for terrorists and the enemy in Iraq. There are many who believe it is Bush himself.
If you want old news here is a piece of news that the Pentagon was acutely aware of back in 1999. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/11/04/war.games.ap/index.html?eref=rss_topstories And here are some citations from the article reporting this Pentagon research: For the past 3.5 years Bush has been telling the public that he has the troops in Iraq that the generals want and if they want more he'll provide them. The military has been grumbling about Rumsfeld since he became the Secretary of Defense. An impressive group of recently retired generals complained seriously about Rumsfeld and the conduct of the top level leadership with regard to the war. If anything Bush has been preaching to his supporters about staying the course, finishing the job and winning. Looks to me like Bush and Rumsfeld are the strategic reasons as to why the situation is going backwards with increasing levels of violence across the country, between rival sects, and with increasing levels of violence against American soldiers.
