One of my friend own a site and the homepage of the site is split into 3-4 categories i mean there are more then 3 sections of homepage. New article News Story Pictures Whenever he add something new like for say he add a new article the old article would move to article page and the new article will take its spot on homepage. Same with everything else. So when new content is added it takes the spot on those section @ homepage. Now every new page is optimized with H1 tags. So on homepage there are 4 sections and each section has an H1 tag. Home itself has an H1 tag. So at any given time there are 5 H1 tags on home. He needs to know if that can hurt in SEO. Its important to have H1 on everypage too so what do you guys suggest. Is it ok to have more then 1 H1 on one page
I know that My question is (To clarify) Will it hurt to have 1+ or will it just dont give a lot of weight to that page H1s
Oh I don't think it will really hurt, however you're probably right that with each additional one the weight of the H1 decreases.
I don't think it can hurt. It makes sense for his site to have multiple H1 tags as each section is just as important as the other. The only other way I see to do it, is make the 'home' link an H1, and make the others H2 and reformat with css to make them appear the same.
Yes, adding more then one H1 tag will reduce its weight. If you have more then one then guess what? That is what H2 and H3 tags are for! You prioritize what is most important! If we could make eveyrthing and H1 tag then we woudl do it but the truth is that an H! tag simply helps the SE figure out what text is more important.
I think a page should have only 1 H1 tag. Search engine algorithms assume text contained in an H1 tag is the page title and describes the page content. So if you use several H1 tags, you might dilute the value of the keywords in those tags.
we're back to shool:1,2,3,4,5,6. that's what they're up for: 1 for the bigger, 2 for the second, 3 for third... this is how i see it and put it on work. but you can always find a competitor website, go to code view, and see for yourself how he does it. nice!
