More than one h1 tag on single web page

    Hi All,

    I want to know if we place more than one h1 tag on a page will affect the rankings in the SERP or not.

    suppose i place five h1 tag on different keywords in the same page.

    if anybody have any information about it please share with us.

    Google will look at the first and ignore the rest. But if you make the first one the H1 and the rest H2, Google allows it.

    Otherwise it starts to become spammy.

    Im not sure i agree. Mutiny Design that rank #1 for "web design" in Google UK use multiple H1's... They should be used to show your most important headings for that page and the H2's and H3s for sub headings.

    Does anyone else use this method?

    its not any problem if u use H1 for multi places on single page, but keep avoiding it not more than 2 times...

    H1 is used to target your main keywords,but if you do it more google will consider only the H1 tag at the top and ignore the rest.

    Yes, it will have affect the rankings. I don't think there's a problem using more than one H1 tag in a page, though I wouldn't go crazy and use loads of them. Doing it five times could be OK, though it depends on the content in the page.

    A silly example, but if the page contents were:

    Blue Widgets
    Buy widgets
    Great widgets
    Best blue widgets
    Buy blue widgets

    ... and each of these were H1, this would be a bad idea.

    But, if under each H1 you have a reasonable amount of text (several paragraphs), and a few H2 or H3, then that's probably fine. The context is crucial!
