More than 1 sitemap.xml for Google ??

    I have a site that I am currently working on, which will have about 10 main sections. These sections will have hundreds of pages inside them, and new pages and content will be added all the time.

    Is it allowed / practical to make a group of smaller sitemap.xml files for each section, rather than just one big one for everything ??

    I think that it would be much easier to manage and maintain a number of smaller sitemap.xml files, rather than one huge one.

    Has anyone got any experience in using more than one sitemap for a site ??

    Yup... you can have multiple sitemap for different section but make sure you make one index sitemap with the details of all other sitemaps.

    Heres what google says about it.

    Dont worry & go ahead for creating multiple sitemaps.:)
